Bought a lb of color the other day to discover that the color rods were just a hair to small and when I stuck the ends to the tube there were little gaps in between the lines that resulted in these little lines of clear. lame. So can anyone tell me the size graphite they use with 38 heavy wall, 44 heavy wall, 50 wall, and what size rods. I have been using 25 mm glass tube with 50 heavy wall, and 8mm color rod but its a little hard to cook in and im thinking about switching to a smaller color rod, perhaps 4mm? all help appreciated.
i use 1" wooden dowel stacking in 44x2.3 and 1 1/8" wooden dowel when stacking in 50x3.5. i usually stick stack with odds hand picking nice fitting rods, good for cheap practice.

Just have to pick thru the rods and find the ones that fit. You can tell just when they are on the wooden dowl whether or not you will have clear gaps. If you do pull a skinny rod out and add a thicker one till it's solid all the way around. Easier to fix this BEFORE you do the stak. (ie: fix while it's cold) Hope that helps.

I agree with mistahead... gaps shouldn't matter if you are marvering.....
I use either a 25.4 heavy wall tube,with 4mm GA rods inside 44x4, or 25.4 heavy and 7mm rods with 50x5.

So you have a layer of clear under the color as well?

If hes doing what I do the glass tube just acts as a dowel.

just did my first stick stack pull today!! pulled two tubes, the first came out a little funky cause my color started saggin about midway. Made my adjustments for the second pull and got all the color stretched out! Much thanks to everyone that has posted about the method. Gonna order some color and more tubing right now.
