hey everybody. ive been trying to figure this out for a while and i came across this site with the conversions for figuring liquid to gas. ill explain it how i figured it out for myself and ill leave the link here for whoever wants it.

heres the tanks i use and how it figures

k tank = 6.93 cubic meters

ox lc160 - 350 psi = 160 litres

1 litre of liquid = 0.7983 cubic meters

therefore 160 litres of liquid = 127.728 cubic meters of gas

127.728m3(gas in a dewar) divided by 6.983m3(gas in a k tank) equals 18.5 k tanks in a 160 litre dewar.

i pay 35 a k tank and i pay 240.25 for a 160 dewar. 240.25 divided by 18.5 equals 12.99 a k tank when i buy by the dewar which i always do.

just thought i would share this in case anybody was trying to figure this out. it has help me fine tune my costs more by knowing really how much i have and then have something to compare it to rather than by guessing how much the dewar gets me.

heres the link to the site that i got the chart to figure it out

Wow you have steep oxy prices where you live, its $12-$20 for a K and $120 for a 160/350 dewar here.

Interesting info tho, I had wondered about this. Thanks!

Anyone have a spare 350psi PRV? my tank has a 500 I'd trade. it scares me.

18.5 is right about right. they are usealy estimated to have 18 K tanks wporth.

you should keep in mind that your milage will vary according to how fast you work and the ambient temp. also, i can't really say for sure but it seems to me like there is some difference in the tanks themselves as far as how fast they vent, it's like they're all tuned slightly differently.

Yeah I always get the best prices on everything when I am swimming through the void. only problem is finding anything to buy.:puzzled:

In addition to the venting issue affecting the amount you pay for liquid, there is also the rent. the longer you make your O2 last the more rent it costs.

but yeah, at 35$ a fill it sounds like a no-brainer for you.

my dewars are 180 liter... so how many k tanks is that?

You're joking, right? I thought you were supposed to be some kind of "math geek."

If you're driving to pick up the tanks, you're also saving the mileage costs of 18.5 trips to the supply store

that was 10 years ago, and I was just trying to get someone else to do it for me. hmmm "math geek" huh? do you know people who know me or something?

I'm tempted to mess with you and try to make you paranoid...but no, I don't know anyone who knows you. I just remember you proclaiming yourself as a "math geek" a while back.

I only took note because I was given a full tuition scholarship to major in Math (that I later dropped because I decided I didn't want to major in Math). But seriously, that's simple arithmetic that you must be capable of doing in your head.

Not as steep as where I live.... :bangHead: Paradise Tax is what they call it...

I was paying $55 for a K tank for years. A 160 dewar costs $529 and some change. And $529 might might seem steep to you guys, but I get a lot more work done with it then I did with the K tank's and it's way less hassle too!! Not having to deal with changing tanks all the time is the best... I'd love to be paying $100 a dewar, but I guess it's all relative right?

If you were to go to Gaspro now and try to open a new account, it would cost $97 for a K tank... It's ridiculous....

Aloha!

Thats rough, hope all the tourist moolah makes up for it. Think I'd have to invest in a generator setup.

I suppose if I felt like it but to be honest I hate math now, I was a better biologist than mathmatician by far. You made a good decision not going into math, math nearly drove me insane and I'm not joking. The reason I asked about the math geek thing is becuase that used to be my old email address: mathgeek777 but that was a long long time ago...

i found industrial oxy generators that produce approx150 cuft in 8 hours for about 3000$. a k tank holds 250. for you it could pay itself off pretty quick.

I looked into a Generator and compressor and everything, but it's a bit to noisy to run in my neighborhood, especially when I work at night when the temp is a bit cooler... A gen. would be the best solution though....

But for now, liquid works for me...

I heard you can build a soundproof housing for the generators with a bunch of cinder blocks, some cement and insulation. Completely enclose it. Might work....
