Props to Scott Deppe! He is the father of these techs and I have been doing them much longer than Salt has been posting.
Ah, I see how its going to be. your name wouldn't happen to be Mac, would it?
Salt has been doing them much longer than he has been posting them, too. Well known for his "masks" for at least the last 4-5 years, including publication in the Flow. Although he hasn't told me this directly, I believe the reason he waited so long to start publicizing them online, was probably to avoid this kind of blatant biting.

Lol! You should spend less time on your computer and get back to the torch. Your work is shwag. All you can do is hate on others hard work from behind a curtain. Get a life the almight OZ. I have been in this game much longer than you realize and have grown thru the progression of others I see just like many artists do. If you have ever seen a Deppe dragon you would see Salts influence and my own. Join the collective conscious and start contributing instead of lingering around with your negative energy.

I frst saw the work of one Scott Deppe in a California shop in 2001. I was 6 months behind the torch. I was only a few inches away from work that, well you just have to see it.
Two years later I met Scott at a gas confrence in Seatle. He had these Dragon spoons. If you've never seen one then I'm sorry. Scott's work helped me to realize what is possible and that there are no rules, just ideas, and thermodynamics.

All I'm saying is don't expect to receive respect, if you don't know how to give it. My own work (which you know nothing about, except possibly a few early pieces) has nothing to do with anything here. However, you may notice I always give credit where it is due, and proper respect to those who deserve it.

I agree with what you say about respect but I think it is funny you choose who I give props to. Do you think I woke up one morning and pulled these techniques out of my ass. I have been working on them for years and not until Salt posted on GP did I know of him or his work. I respect Salt and love his work if he has a problem with my pieces it is his choice to comment. He does not need people like yourself putting others down on his behalf.
Care to show me where I have put you or your work down? Cause I don't see it. Although, you clearly have tried to insult me personally for no good cause, who is really the one with the negative energy here?
And no he doesn't need me to say anything at all, I'm just saying what I know for a fact many others have been thinking since you started posting on GP. If you don't realize how suddenly showing up with this stuff is going to look to anyone who isn't familiar with your history, I'd say you're the one who needs to join the collective consciousness. Some of Salt's work was blatantly counterfeited recently by this guy Mack (complete with salt signature), so I feel there is good reason for some of us to wonder whats up with these.

People think what they want to think that will never change. Obviously I do not follow the pipe seen as closely as yourself or know every bit of drama but this high school mentality is worthless. If our community is to grow we need to drop the egoes and start supporting each other. If someone is willing to put thier work out there regardless of if it looks similar to anothers it is our responsibilty to criticize them in a positive way.

You mean criticizing in a positive way like by calling it "swag?" Oh ok, I'll be sure to keep that in mind.

Wow.... um, uh, I like it.
Sure, it may have a look similar to another artists work, but who on here can show me a piece that is truly and completely unique, and doesn't look at all like something else someone else has done? It's like music. All the chord progressions have been done before, now all that's left is to choose how to put your own personal touch on them and make them you're own.
So with that being said, great work. I look forward to seeing more.

I agree completely, everyone has influences. Sometimes very strong ones. Nothing wrong with that. I just think they should be acknowledged up front, without having to be pushed. Any mention of either Salt or Deppe anywhere in this gallery would have kept me from feeling the need to say anything about it at all. Stevie Ray openly acknowledged his Hendrix influence, Phish gives their nods to the Dead, etc. etc. IMO, to do otherwise is only about a half step away from claiming someone elses work as your own.
Nice Work Bishop ! I definatly see the Scott influence more then the salt but all the work is similiar derived from the same techs. Who bit who? Man don't know much about salt but the work I have seen is sick! But what I have seen has all been spoons. I have a conection to scotts I see it all the time because I deal with a store that caries allot of his work and it is amazing. Matter a fact just saw some of his new carved work last week. His new and improved dragons are tight. I believe the first one I saw was around 01. Bishop your eyes look allot like Scotts. Nice work!Arewe supposed to give props to everyone or are main influences. Because I have not giving props to everyone who has perfected the techs I use. That would be each and every glassartist that has worked the techs. It is all fair game run with it! As far as making direct copies sig and all thats useless because if I could do work like Salts even direct copy I would proudly put my own name on it. Just my 2 cents.

I don't know if I would go quite that far, but I see your point. Still good work though. I look forward to a day when I can do anything even half that nice.

took the words outta my mouth. I was thinking shit I better never post a pic of another piece of my work cause being new its obviously influenced from something i have read or seen. Hell it could end up being a copy of something without even meaning too. Plus there is a ton of info on this board that was read directly from a web site or a book then posted up on here with no credit to the authors on simple things like fuming, ventalation, light transmission etc etc.
I could see if this guy came on here and said heres a tech I came up with and my design concept and then being called out. If there is proof hes counterfitting work that maybe a different story.
