I wasn't sure what the right forum to post in was for topics about selling glass. This post is *NOT* an endorsement of this service, it's just something new that I have come across and am passing on. I know many many people have issues with or have been burned by PayPal, so its good to see another option.

I was told about this on another list, by someone who uses this new service, so I am basically repeating what they say.

Anyway, I just found out that Google now has their own online payment system that does all the things Paypal does. Its called Google Checkout, the URL is:

checkout.google.com

They have lower transaction rates than PayPal, I believe it is 2% plus 20 cents per transaction. Google checkout includes ways to give refunds and such. Also if you you advertise with Google Adwords, you get some amount of free transaction processing (based on how much you spend at Adwords which is a way to advertise your business on Google, go to adwords.google.com for details)

Google checkout has easier ways of dealing with customers -- returns, refunds, etc. - Order tracking on the site is easier in the Google method. - Paypal doesn't require a Paypal account for the customer. Google does, but the process of creating an account is transparent (just two extra fields on the credit card from -- email address and password. The customer almost can't tell that they're cresting an account.

And thats all I know, I am going to personally do a lot of reading and researching into it. If anyone knows more, I would appreciate hearing feedback.

Me too, I've got major problems with the way that Google is so invasive in their tracking programs, I could certainly see where this is just one more way for them to stick their noses into our private business.

I'm not sure why you say "Me too" as I wasn't saying anything negative about google or their new checkout / online payment service. In fact I am most likely going to use it and paypal and eventually may quit using paypal. The service fees are lower with the google service and they ofter more options.

Google is not anymore invasive than anything else and you can totally disable tracking cookies with a single line of HTML code and not storing cookies and other tracking data on your system.

I'm saying me too, because I'd like to find out more about it as well.

What concerns me about the fee structure is that it is low now, most likely to gain new customers from PayPal, but it will most likely rise to match PayPal at some point in time. Everyone wants a piece of the internet money pie, and this was bound to happen sooner or later, but because of the impenetrable link between eBay and PayPal, I doubt that Google will make much headway.

What bothers me most about Google is their damnable menu bar that seems to appear on practically every piece of software I want to install. Not everyone knows how to turn it off, much less about the cookies. You and I and those experienced about it certainly do, but when the menu bar is offered with such an appealing offer as "Makes your internet searching 100 times faster", and is set to automatically install unless you physically tell it not too, newbies and those not familiar with the ways of the 'net get suckered in and Google has gotten a whole new bunch of information free of charge.

Sorry for the rant, but Google just plain pisses me off. I think its the fact that it is done "secretly" and behind the scenes without notification to the computer owner exactly what is happening and why.
