View Full Version : sand blasting steps??

hey guys i am going to(attempt) do some sandblasting on some spoons out of blue and clear tube...what is a good grade of sand to use?? i am guessing you kiln peaces befor you blast?? the solid color frost look is a good start i think...any suggestionS??

and you don't want to actually use sand.

silicon carbide is what you want.

I like 220 grit. Works quickly, but still gives a nice look. 120 is a bit harsh, but may be more useful for "carving". I don't know, as I have not gotten around to trying that out yet.

The shit is pretty evil though, so use a mask when handling.

i like 180 grit aluminum oxide myself. masking tape is a good simple resist for carbs mouth pieces ect. have fun with it . peace brett

I like the sand from the west coast the best. Last stuff I got from the east coast was not gritty enough and the images just did not turn out right. Over by Seaside Oregon they have really nice sand with just enough grit to do the job.
