To all you artist that travel by plane........
....I'm traveling to Cali for the scott class and I was woundering what everyone else does when they fly...
....How do you bring your torch?.......I had a friend that tried to get on a plane with his delta and they didn't know what the hell it was! so they "tried" to look inside and screwed up his knobs and he had to send it to gtt to get fixed....they charged him $100......so I dont want to deal with that!!........
Any what do you do about traveling with head pieces....I haven't been on a plane since before 9 11...so I dont know whats cool....and I dont want to take my glass.....
My thoughts are mail the torch.....but I dont have a clue about the pipes......
..also what about glass tools, are the airports ok with filling your luggage with em?...lol
:chainsmk:
Thanks
Alfred

Travelign with a torch is *NOT* risky.. I have done it every year for the last 4 years from Australia to San Fran and then later on across the Canadian border. I always take it as carry on, in a metal briefcase no less and I do not get any problems from USA, Canada or Australian customs or TSA.
Every single time, it goes through the x-ray machine, they have me open up the case, I tell them what it is, one of the guys will snif it to make sure there is no propane in the lines, and then they say it's all good and send me on my way.
So you gotta know that if they are cool with it on an international flight, they are going to be cool with it on a domestic flight.
Btw, I have a GTT phantom, but I doubt that matters....

sorry meer but im gonna have to disagree. i went to the airport a few days ago as i am leaving to denver on tuesday. and the tsa agents told me that i wouldnt be able to bring it on the plane. if you go onto tsa website it says no gas torches are allowed as carry on. im sure its up to the tsa but i would go to the airport and ask someone first. im going to pack the shit out of mine and put in my luggage underneath the plane. im hoping there is no probs with that. im also gonna look into having insurance on my luggage. but thats my 2 cents so keep it in mind.

Well I guess all I can say is I have never had a bad expereince.
The only time I had an issue actually was traveling from California to Oregon via Amtrack and they wanted me to put my little toolbox of hand tools underneath the train, and they gave me the most fucked up reason which was that anything metal had to be stored under the train for weight distribution reasons.

If you do pack it in your luggage it would be a good idea to get a hard suitcase. Lesson I learned the hard way :)
