View Full Version : Announcing: Smoked Volume 1

Smoked Vol. 1
04-07-2008, 02:17 PM
Hi guys and girls. I want to make you all aware of a new project called "SMOKED".

It will create a platform for pipe blowers to reach a broader market and connect with a more main stream audience.

Smoked will take the form of a BOOK and EXHIBIT.

We are inviting all glass pipe blowers to submit your best work. We know there are hundreds of you out there creating amazing works of art and we want to document it.

and... EVERY ARTIST THAT ENTERS WILL RECEIVE A FREE COPY OF THE BOOK!

We will be producing an exhibit featuring all of the pipes that were selected and printed in the book. The exhibit will serve as a forum for artists, collectors, and the general public to experience the results of the "Smoked" project together.

***visit www.smokedvolume1.com (http://www.smokedvolume1.com) for much more information on the project***

Thanks everyone,

J.A.G (Nathan Pucell) and Brian Jacobson

no need to hide this away in pipes, you're more than welcome to talk about pipes on any subforum, including general. that"pipe" section is for pipe specific techniques.

welcome...and hope to see this work out.

If you can't pay don't enter.

This is a legit deal, being run by a legit team. I don't think it's a scam to get your loot.

Beta-
If you are referring to the application fee, I have to say that there will be no profit made from this book. All application fees are going to produce the book. Also, we will be giving a copy of the book to everyone that enters work, weather your stuff is selected or not so your $25 will not be wasted.

This book will be of the highest quality and distributed nationally.

We are not doing this for our benefit.. This is purely for the glass pipe making community and we want this to be a annual project that really gets people excited.

I hope the fee does not deter you from entering.

I think it sounds like a great idea.

Do you have a ballpark number in mind of how many artists you will be selecting? I'm sure that partially depends on the submissions, but I'm wondering if you have a ceiling in mind or if that's been decided. Just curious...

I'm also wondering about the book itself. Hardcover? Coffee table type thing? Through what channels are you planning to distribute the book? Again, just think it's a good idea and want to know more about it.

Glad to hear you like the idea. We are shooting for at least 25 artists. We would like to have more but it will really depend on the number of submissions. The more we get the better. We also want to really set a high standard so as this becomes an annual project the quality of submissions get better and better. No ceiling at the moment.

Volume 1 will be a soft cover but on a premiere cover stock. We would like to eventually get to a hard cover but all funds are out of pocket right now so we are going soft. But, that will in no way compromise the quality. The design, photography and printing will be first rate.

We are working on distribution right now. We have nothing locked down. If you have any ideas we would love to hear them.

make sure you go to the site and sign-up on our email list for up to date info.

couple of questions.

what kind of gallery is illidelph or is it a gallery, how successful are the shows in the past?

is it just an exhibit or are the pipes for sale?

what are your policies on breakage/insurance? (seems like you want "high end" stuff)

are you marketing towards serious art/craft collectors or serious glass collectors and how are you marketing it?

how "functional" does it need to be?

I would love to submit a rather involved piece, but I am wary of sending work off without the details! sounds pretty cool, I can't wait to hear more.

As far as distribution of the book, I guess I'm wondering what your target market is. Is this something you are planning on selling in "head shops" or something that you are hoping to present to a "main stream audience"...or both?

Not pissin on it , just a thought .

half way sounds like a front for operation "Smoked Out" .

are the applicants info kept private ? seems kinda like an EZ way to get a list of peeps doing the craft , and you gotta keep the work so they have solid evidence of who you are .

I like the idea , esp like a coffee table style book , be cool to be rippin and flippin through some pics of sweet art .

i think people should have the choice to submit up to 1 - 5 entries.... $5 per entry. Maybe some people would like to submit their work, but not 5 different pieces.

guys...

$25 application - not per entry

You get a book for your application

It SOUNDS like you can enter up to 5 pieces per application.

also, look at the names behind this if you think it's a scam.

JANKY Glass - Collabs are very welcome. We are interested in anything you can come up with.

KOOL- Our target market is ages 17 - 35 but feel our content will interest an even broader demographic. We would like to get these into every head shop nationally and will be presenting to larger organizations such as Amazon.com and Urban Outfitters. Hope that answers your question.

NUBBLET - All artist info will be kept very private an artist requests there info be printed we will be happy to do so.

THE LORAX - Each artist has the choice of submitting from 1 - 5 entries. We wish we could offer you that at $5 an entry but remember, with your entry you get a free copy of the book weather you are selected or not. Its a pretty good deal. A book and the chance to have up to 5 entries printed in it.

we will be putting mock ups of the design on our site in the up coming weeks, so check it out. Also... remember to sign up with our mailing list.

Thanks everyone

I always thought we needed a "500 glass pipes" book to go with the other books out there like that. I will definitely be submitting a piece or two, I'll even help ya get the book into my local head shops (chico, ca)......... hope everything goes well in this process.

smoked cool idea,

i have one question or i am confused about one thing. do you need the piece in front of you or just photos? of course i understand the piece in question cant be shown anywhere but do you keep the piece or do i?

Smoked Vol. 1

Dancing - Your entry will be a photo of the piece. If it is selected we require you ship us the piece to be photographed. The piece will then be on exhibit and for sale for 1 month at a L.A. glass pipe gallery. If it is not sold we will return the piece.

Misha - Sorry I forgot to post the answers publicly, I sent Micah a personal message. Here you go...

Illadelph iss a pipe gallery on Melrose Ave in sunny L.A. Illadelph started in Philly and recently moved out to Cali. All pipes will be up for sale.

Smoked will be responsible for breakage during the entire project. If anything should break we will be responsible for it. We will send out contract once you are selected.

We are marketing the book to mainly the 17 - 35 age group but feel that the photos and content will be appealing to a much broader audience. For volume 1 we are targeting mostly glass art collectors.

Smoked Vol. 1
04-08-2008, 01:32 PM
harpentuan - we will take every selected piece to the exhibit. Artist that are not selected for the book may still be asked to submit their piece for the exhibition. Also... The exhibition will be for a month, not a week.

Stackerson - You are correct. If you enter you will receive a copy. No matter if you are selected or not. It is a good deal!

EVERYONE - make sure to sign up for our email list www.smokedvolume1.com. We will be keeping you up to date on the project.
