So I finally am making some cool stuff, even made my Mommy a flower for Mothers Day, biggest thing I have made yet:D It is pretty sweet. So my O2 tank starts making this high pitched sound, not loud but annoying, I thought it was the Radio at first. Anyway the regulator(Victor Firepower) was leaking from the pressure adj. knob, what is up with that it is brand new, my 02 is getting low but that shouldnt matter should it? Is my regulator bunk or what?
Also I have noticed that there is a orange hue around my torch(lynx) flame, no matter where it is adjusted at? I don't know if this is normal or not cause I have never really looked at the flame till tonite without glasses?
Let me know what you guys think is up with my gas problems, until then I am at a stand still!
Thanks

also Ilike to leave my shop doors open in the nice weather but quickly get infested by flying insects which kamikaze into my torch flame(pretty cool but a pain in the ass). Any suggestions on keeping the bugs away from me, it is a barn style building with a great view so the obvoius screen is really not an option.? Thanks for the help. there is a bug light out in my yard but it doesn't keep them off my flouro shop lights, whatg about a small bugzapper in the building?? any danger to that, or does anyone one know of a good candle or something else I can hang in the doorways. Thanks

sounds like the diaphragm went bad.... they say you should unscrew the knob before releasing tank pressure to the regulator if its all the way closed it won't be damaged by the high pressure.

on another note how many tanks have you gone thru with that reg... ? Take that thing back if it's still under warranty

Yeah it is a new reg I have only gone thru one tank so far with it, also what is up with the hue around my flame, I can only see it with dids. off.

sounds like your not getting enough oxy to your torch. When you see that orange hue did you check the face to see if the torch face is hot or are you running the candles real low? You might have had some junk or debris on the oxy tank that went into your reg like rusted metal. Send the reg back right away you don't wanna know how much it costs to fix it if it comes out of your pocket (sometimes more then the reg cost new).
My gtt flame always looks blue even when running a reducing flame. Only time I saw an orange glow is when the valve creep cut the propy down and the candles went short. It only last a second or two but the face got super hot in that time period.
Check the filters where your hose connects to the torch too. Also does it whistle all the time, only when the torch is running or only when the torch is off?

I am running the Mirage but only have the lynx lines hooked up, the other two are blocked off. I am running like 25psi of oxy and about 8 of propane to the lynx. The candles could be long as hell and there is still a orange hue around the flame, I mean every flame I run is like this, no matter what. I am def not running a short flame or overheating though, I have come in a watched the vid a thousand times from gtt. I think the regulator went bad but it is brand new, are those victor firepower regs good or what? I am running a T tank and am/was getting to the bottom of it when this all happened last nite, this is the first tank I have run with this whole setup so the regs have not even seen 2 tanks yet.

I think firepower is an entry level for there regs. Not sure though.

They say medium duty they were like $70 a piece, but anyway what should I do. Just call mountain and see what they say I guess.

bro I shouldnt' have put that up about them being entry level cause I really don't know. I'd call victor or call mountainglass and get real answers.

Victors are good regulators, if it is the regulator I would be willing to bet you opened the tank with your line pressure up and killed it. The pressure adjuster (on the regulator) needs to be backed all the way out when you open your tank or you will get thousands of pounds of pressure smackin your diaphragm.
It is also possible that it was a defective reg, but I doubt it. If it was though, and you got it at Mountain Glass I am sure they will take care of it.
Also, are you sure it is coming out of the regulator and not the valve on top of the oxy bottle? The valve on the oxy bottle seats open so if it is not opened all the way tight oxy will leak out of the valve on some tanks.
I would suggest spraying everything with soap and water solution and finding exactly where the oxy is coming from.
The quality of your reg is not the issue, I have the first entry level regulators I ever bought (5 years ago) and they still work fine. I am not using them but they are my back ups.
Good Luck!

yeah i think it was a defective reg. cause i religiously(have a checklist) of things to do before I start and finish, releasing the pressures are always released at night and then checked to make sure in the morning. Thanks.

Yup they Mountain glass is sendin me out a new one, which I never questioned, they are good dudes over there. But I am hoping that this will solve my flame problem also.......I think it makes sense that if it was leaking i wasnt get the oxy i needed to the mix, hence the orange hue. thanks guys and thanks mountain glass
