ok, maybe its not soo weird, but i posted on CL to find shops/vendors to do some contract work for my pieces. and got a reply back from someone lookin for me to teach them for cash........i dont really know what to tell em. i mean im not anywhere near an expert, dont think id put myself too much beyond beginner(even though i been workin glass for almost 8 years now!) but i have no idea what to charge, or how long of a class to hold, or even if i am comfortable with anyone watching me, asking questions and sh*t. i seem to make nicer things when i am alone. dont really like friends 'over my shoulder', let alone a stranger! but i could really use cash! i really dont care where it comes from(as long as it was printed by the 'govt', not some a*s on his pc, lol) :bangHead:
but yea, i guess i gotta think more about my issues on this.....but any ideas what to charge?

Reading your post I'm going to say it's pretty clear you don't want to teach. Save yourself the trouble the money isn't in teaching it's in producing work. I would invite them to come watch for a day and vibe it out if you really think it's what you want to do. Most teaching situations are community service, sharing is caring attitude. Always seems like the people who expect to make a lot of money from teaching become rip off artists declaring there intellectual property is more valuable then the next. Certainly not trying to undermine anyones teaching situation but teaching in general is one of the most humble services you can do considering most would make more money just producing there work.

look just think to yourself what would i like to learn. teach them the basics, but don't cut corners on anything. show them that glass won't hurt them so they aren't scared. if you feel you aren't knowledgeable enough either charge a really low price or have them buy you some color and tubes, it seems a fair trade.

depends on how long of a class you are willing to do. i would think a basic beginners class, with a thourough rundown of the basics, for 3-4 days would cost around 3-400 dollars. over 3 days somewhere around 20 hours total. i think that would be a fair price. also remember you will be able to still work some of the time too. you also have to want to teach and be able to make mistakes in front of students. when i first started i paid 500 bucks for almost 40 hours of teaching. he taught me how to make a fumed spoon. there was only so much he could teach me. as anyone knows more than half the battle was practicing what you learned. i dont have any formal teaching under my belt but have taught and am teaching a few friends, and i like doing it. i think its cool watching them get better. i say figure out how much you want to charge and try it out. youll have guarranteed money and see if you like teaching or not. sorry for the ramble.
