O.K. people...I somehow managed to scab some free airfare and I ran up the credit card so I could make it to G.A.S. this year. Problem is, I'll be in Portland for four days alone, so I was thinking...

Who all is going. All the GLDGers should arrange some meeting place or something. Networking is a good thing, plus...Drinking beer is better with cool company. Eh?

Indeed. I juts put together the last part of the trip (GAS registration, even if I didn't go to GAS I still wanna be there)

So I'm staying at the Portland Paramount Hotel, a block away from the main conference. I'll be in town the 17th through the 22nd.

We should all get together for sure.

Right on! One's on board.

I'll be in town 18th -22nd. I ended up at the roach motel (travelodge @ 4th & Caruthers) My time share at the Paramount was all booked cuz I'm a slacker. My bad for waiting too long.

When we get a few more on board, we'll have to designate a spot and time or maybe work out a way to text each other or something. Input welcome.

you guys are welcome at my shop, its a little father away than a few blocks from the conference, but Portland's public transportation system is second to none.

We are right on the max line(public train) and are really easy to get to.

Yeah, Pyro...That's my real name. My Dad's name is Robin and my mother swears she didn't know about Pooh at the time.......1972.....still not sure if I believe her.

Puddletown...Thanks for the invite. We'll see how it works into plans. Portland is the shit for non-car gettin' around fer-sher. Keep checkin' the thread. I'm hoping we can keep it going and get a grip of us together by conference time.

Thanks for the props, Pyro...you going to be in Portland for G.A.S.?

Melter, sounds like a definite schedule filler if'n things get slow at O'dark-thirty.

UST...right on...you are in the loop too.

We'll definitely have to figure out a way of communicating as things get closer.

Hey guys…

The Glass Alchemy crew is looking forward to meeting as many of you as possible while you are in town.

For those of you that don’t know, Glass Alchemy is sponsoring a gallery show, Degenerate Art: The Art and Culture of Glass Pipes (http://www.thegldg.com/forum/showthread.php?t=19137&highlight=portland)at the Mark Woolley Gallery, which is showing throughout the month of June. GA is going to host a happy hour at the gallery on June 19th from 4-6 for those of you that will be in Portland. This is an open invite… you do not need to be registered for the conference.

You will have a chance to meet some of the artists featured in the show and enjoy our special brew - Alchemy Ale – which we will supply at the happy hour. If you want to come, please drop us a line at alchemist@glassalchemyarts.com or call us at 503.460.0545 so we can make sure we have enough beer.

See you there…

you need to be regestered to go to G.A.S? What do you have to have to get regestered, or who is to be contacted?

I would check out their website - www.glassart.org. You will find all the registration info there. I think you need to be registered to attend the lectures.

pre-reg is closed I think. If you are coming to Portland...we are the microbrew capitol of the US so try one or two of our local breweries....there are plenty to choose from. Rogue, Bridgeport, McMennamins, Amnesia, Lucky Labador, Widmer, Dead Guy, Racoon Lodge, Deschuttes (<---they have a mirror pond thats been twice distilled into brandy), Alemeda, Laurelwood, Roots, and many others...all local and easy to get to on the bus!

Holy crap! You just listed some of my favorite breweries.....and you say they are Portland local via public transpo? Please give me more detailed info! Or at least a good place to find a directory or something.........Oregon Breweries rock!....no..."rock" is too lame....they dominate the beer industry (with a couple exceptions).

it seams like there is a brewery in every little neighborhood of town, They are everywhere. Google Portland breweries.

Or you can tell me which ones your interested in and ill tell you where they're at.

One of the local weekly papers here is called The Mercury.

http://www.portlandmercury.com/portland/Home

you can probably find some stuff there

Hope that helps

i'm flying out. not sure where i'm staying yet. any suggestions? i was thinking of renting a car... should i not bother? is public trans that good.... like out to Tigard et al?

Greymatter Glass

I've heard Portland has the best public trans in the country.

I'm staying at the portland Paramount, good rates and looked nicer than the confrence rooms that are left, and it's closer (one block from the Hilton)

This might help with the public transpo question. I have been to Portland five or six times and it's and awesome city that's really made for public transportation and walking (driving there is a pain in the ass IMO.) If you get a room downtown and don't plan to do any out-of-the-city sight seeing, you won't need a car. The MAX will take you from the airport to downtown, and it's all legs or rails from there.

The MAX (light rail) does travel pretty far out to some surrounding towns, but you'll have to check the TriMet site on the details.

thanks guys. maybe i'll just get a car for sunday- i do want to do a little driving around. it's so gorgeous in the surrounding area.

sometimes GAS sucks without your own car- especially during the gallery hops. remember st louis? you were lucky if you could catch more than one gallery! i hope they're organized this year
