Those are all very cool but the celtic knotwork really blows my mind, how is that even possible? :puzzled: Is it painted?

I'm thinking make an all black section then sandblast away your 'outline lines' with a stencil an then hand color them like a fill-e-chello (sp)

absolutely fucking amazing ,i can sure see why G.A.S. had to have some showcasing of these amazing works of art yes Pipes .since its Pipes that have come forward with the passion that can only come Love of ones art and subject and pushes the envelope farther than any other form in Glass art
Bravo to G.A.S. and love and respect to Slinger for his work above and beyond .
i feel my experiance wont ever be complete until i'm able to travel around ,meet other artists and be able to attend venues like this ,the sharing skills the comradery the support like nothing ive ever heard of ,makes me proud to have
taken hold of and carrying on the Torch
*on getting caught up i didnt realize that G.A.S. decided to snub the Degenerate Art Show , a disappointment and lack of insite on their part .im betting many still found their way and wer'nt censored by Gas removing the best gallery from their tour

Those Celtic Knots are done by Scott Deppe. Each one is hand drawn with boro stringers. Using the "disk flip" technique. The larger disks take up to 10 hours each!

i don't know shit about GAS's intentions to snub anyone or group or medium or exhibition. but i somehow doubt they care that a gallery unaffiliated with their organization or it's conferences events was having an exhibition of whatever subject matter.
if the gallery hop didn't list the gallery (refer to Henry's post about it) it was probably due to the deadline for print being missed or some other snafu.
GAS works tirelessly to bring outstanding people and experience to the fore-front of the glass movement, all disciplines included.
the degenerate show wouldn't have happened without the audience that the GAS conf generates. keeping in mind that the studio glass movement of the late 60's started GAS, maybe there is more to the argument about pipemaking being the most significant movement in glass?
i'm only saying this, cause don't poo-poo the Glass Art Society for searching out and welcoming every discipline of glass that fits within current legal regulations. if you want legitimacy for pipemaking, run for office, write some laws, and make the changes you see fit for society. even though this democracy is run by criminals, that's what it's for.
i don't have the proper glasses to view those pictures. critical advice: macro lens.

i.
shops in Portland display glass pipes legally.
its not illegal to display pipes.
and no one is looking for "legitimacy".
we only want a voice.
i love how we are told what we do is "safe" but its not allowed b/c the subject/object is too "out of bounds"....
hah.

hear hear... I would run for office, but it would take time away from my illegitimate pipemaking operation...
Mr. Deppe, your knotwork is spectacular, particularly once we find out that those are hand drawn disk flips. Way to blow my mind!
Sebastian, can you really get a tube from this guy for cheap? Call me a beotch if you like...

thats wrong actually.
the ORIGINAL Degenerate Art show i put together in 2004 in Vancouver BC and it had absolutely NOTHING to do with GAS or other glass art.
My show was up for a month and we sold over $50,000 worth of pieces, and had a huge attendance, both at the opening and during the month; i had collectors flying in from all over the the US and the world to buy pieces.
We did this show just to have a voice alongside GAS. But we are not tied to them in anyway, nor are they our target audience BY ANY MEANS.
Our next show(s) will be targeting art collectors in general, not merely a "glass" audience.
Its funny how medium-centric glass artists are, i personally think out of those boundaries....
