Etienne Meneau

i wouldnt worry too much about your decanter being ordered here most folks here have skills far beyond attaching clear tubing together .and also none here would pay 4 k for what i would consider more scientific type glasswork than art

have a look at some of the art being made on gp.org or ga.org including hasslenuts pages and you will see what i am saying .im not trying to be rude but rather just point out there are some very talented folks here

with that said welcome Etienne ,and best of luck with your decanters

Etienne, we all know you are the creator. But artists do as artists do, any idea old or new they 'redo' with theyr'e own styles and influence.
Ideas are always recycled.
Glass art no longer is covered by the dark curtain.
Collaborations have led the way in pushing the boundaries.

that is why this industry sucks, everything gets coppied, and then sent to another country to be mass produced, that is everything with any marketable value. You are lucky if you get any creds for any thing you do. Make your money quick, because this industry is on its last legs. Get in and get out before the ceiling colapses.

Now is the time to buy houses.

How about a "decanter challenge".... What about the three legs coming out from center and doing a really smooth 180 degree (plus) turn on each leg and joining it back to center with all tubes (open internally) and then asking "frenchie" not to mass produce....

I opened the crate and a beaning light filled my hovel of a home, as I poured a fifth of nighttrain into it. It mercaulously turned in to a 89 bordeux, and as I took a sip, I heard, and SAW JESUS' FACE!!!!!Don't be suckered into those CHEAP FRENCH IMPOSTERS!!!!

How many US soldiers died at Normandy?

The U.S. Army Center of Military History in Washington, D.C., numbers 6,036 American casualties, including wounded and missing. The Heritage Foundation in Washington estimates 4,900 dead.

I couldnt disagree more. If someone was biting a style that someone had JUST relesed on gp, like the day before, then made their own, and claim they came up with the idea... that'd be different. the pipe community has opened up immensely in the last few years, and most of the best artists at least seem not to care, if you're inspired by their ideas, its a compliment, and they know most people cant execute them as cleanly as the original. you just gotta give props to the originators.

A historical fact we weren't so quick to forget. Hence the 4,900 US soldiers who perished at Normandy.

Is there any doubt that contemporary American lampworking designs/techniques are being replicated throughout western Europe today? I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that.

You and I had nothing to do with any of these historical factoids.

I was just joking around. I laugh my ass off every time someone that was not invoved in world war two brings it up as if they personally sacrificed something. You read about it. That's it. Same with me.

Well, I sure got an ear full from my grandfather (who raised me). He served in the Pacific Theatre of Operations, P-38 aircrew. He got shot up so many times/could barely walk anymore... so we spent countless hours together in his old Ford truck, touring the National Parks. Believe me, the monologue was heavily WW2 themed.

His older brother was among our fallen at Omaha beach in 1944. So yes, it's ingrained in my consciousness.

My father was killed in Nam when I was three years old. Am I allowed an opinion on that war (which we inherited from the French)?

Or, by your measure my statements can never be valid, nor am I allowed to make a historical reference because I wasn't a combatant in those wars?

Both my grandfather and my father came from a sovereign (tribal) nation in the western United States... and the French didn't lift a finger to help us keep our land. If anyone helped the Desert Cahuilla it was the Spanish, providing us with guns & horses. So, technically (if you really want to split hairs) I probably shouldn't be saying "we" in reference to the Revolutionary war either.

Frankly, I think "we" would have done a little better against His Majesty's Royal Army than we did against the American fronteirsmen. Oops... I didn't actually ride with Chief Cabazon, so my views on westward expansion & manifest destiny are meaningless. LOL!

Ok mecha, now you've got me laughing too. Mission accomplished.

My grandfather was an arsonist for a couple of guys that committed insurance fraud. He went to prison. He was a model prisoner and got out early on good behavior. He became a successful businessman and is now a multi millionaire. He was also in ww2, although I think he was just a cook on a ship.

The thing is, those are his experiences, not mine. The fact that I share his genetic material does not mean that I get to share the credit, or shame for any of his actions. I have my own life that has it's own points of pride and embarrassment.

Never said that you could not reference past events. I just find it funny when people include themselves as if they had anything to do with it. Don't try and make it seem as if I am some ignorant rube trying to deny the context of historical events on the modern world, or that I somehow suggested one cannot have an opinion on the past.

Neat-o that you know some history! I like wikipedia too!

Ah Hass, mon petit chou-chou. The decanter that you made for me is superb. I love it, especially with the eerie yellow green of my stash of absinthe glistening inside. My mom and my sister love theirs too, and can hardly wait to place an order for a full set- one for each exotic liqueur in all their brilliant colors. Wouldn't that make a fabulous gallery display?

We'll have to get you hooked up with all the restaurants in town too- then they too could support the glassblowers of the MI Crew. They are just so awesome, I think everyone should have one!

no offense, but theres some rootless comments here. to be fair, mecha, the whole "we" thing is how most people refer to their country and people. it doesnt matter if you were there, our families were. "we". when you refer to your family as "we" are you only referring to the living? would you have corrected a 20 year old black student who wrote an essay stating that "we" were taken into slavery?. i bet you wouldnt. sorry for taking this thread further in the wrong direction, but i really dont think the original topic was going anywhere anyway. this is a bit more stimulating.

Of course I would. Why not? Should I be afraid of black people for some reason? Slavery has not existed in this country for quite a while now. To not point that out would be ridiculously over PC in my book. Modern day blacks have no more claim to experiencing slavery than any one else.

I am just referring to the notion of taking credit for the actions of others simply due to familial or national relations.

Just because "most people" use the term "we" does not mean it is correct. Remember "most" people voted for GW.

Theoretically, the IRS should be redistributing our tax dollars in a just and equitable manner.

Obviously, this is not the case....

However, it is not quite as brutal as living in imprisonment to some wealthy land owner and having to pick cotton (or some other menial task) all day. I can't even remember the last time I was whipped. Better get on the wife about that :devilish:

What about the three legs coming out from center and doing a really smooth 180 degree (plus) turn on each leg and joining it back to center with all tubes (open internally) and then asking "frenchie" not to mass produce....
