We have lost a friend and fellow glass worker.
Damien Winters was an amazing person. I hope some of you had the chance to know him!
I remember Damien as a snowboarder and windsurfer and being very passionate about it! He also happened to be a great lampworker!!
Damien was turning out tubes and other glassware since.?..(I met him in 2001 and he was already well into the biz) He was working to live but he lived to PLAY! Mt Hood and the Columbia River Gorge. He died windsurfing friday July 18 from what a friend has told me.
My family remembers Damien and send our respect to his family.

this is one of the many drinking glasses I've bought from Damien.
this is the only one I still own.
The fume is beautiful! it makes my O.J. look pinkish-mango and my grape juice becomes cosmic black-blue

R.I.P. That's sad, I did like reading about him being a bad mambajamba on the board though. It has to be really difficult to pull a flip on a sail board.

Gosh, I'm very sad to hear about this. Condolences to family and friends.
I didn't know Damien myself. However, I've lost friends before in sailplane accidents. I think I'd rather go that way than sitting on my ass in an old folks home. I think it's more important to live a full and exciting life than to be dull and over cautious all the time. None the less, proper training and safety awareness can sometimes save you.
Peace be with you Damien !

i didn't get to know damien, but i wish i had... a fellow windsurfer, snowboarder/skier, and glassblower. we probably would have gotten along great
godbless
Damien was an awesome person and a super great friend he introduced me to glass in about 1995 and showed me all he knew. We shared our first shop together in eugene during the mid nineties when the scene was exploding, I am glad to have shared that experience with him. We made countless trips up and down the west coast selling glass and going to festivals, and had alot of fun in the process. He was one of the great true friends in my life and will be greatly missed, but never forgotten! This is a picture of him at seattle hempfest around 2000.
