Hi folks. The schedule is completed, but I’m sure we’ll have to juggle a few things / change some times around here and there and add a demo or two. Other than that, here’s what you can expect. We’ll see you soon… VERY soon!!!!
Monday, August 18th:
The first day of AGI is always a light schedule to accommodate people who are arriving, setting up, and meeting other guests. We don’t want you to miss anything!
5:00 PM: Orientation: Tom Doner / Mr. Wonka
A welcome message, brief presentation outlining the layout of the facility, and some guidelines we ask that you follow.
5:15 PM: Demonstration: Alan Stevens:
Alan is providing lapidary equipment (band saw and belt sander) for us to use throughout the week, and this demonstration will show you the proper use of the tools.
7:30 PM: Demonstration: Laser Engraver
Mike Glass will have his laser engraver on hand for us to use. The initial demo / instructional session will be an overview of how to use the machine and accompanying software in The Lewis C. Wilson Building. After that, the unit will be used in The Wonka Building all week.
Tuesday, August 19th
12:30 PM: Demonstration: Emilio Santini
Goblets: Cup, stem and foot. Creating the different elements of the vessel and how to assemble them together with some tips on how to fix some common and uncommon mistakes.
3:30 PM: Demonstration: Kenan Tiemeyer
Kenan will focus on the hollow applications of fuming with gold and silver using Kimble. This will be a more bead oriented and he will most likely end up making a variety of styles of beads.
8:30 PM: Presentation: Photography and Editing by Andrew Moch
This is an in depth class about taking photos and editing them in Photoshop and similar programs. It is geared towards the layman with little experience, and will cover all you need to know about presenting your work in the best possible way.
Image is everything, and this is a class you should not miss!
10:30 PM: Impromptu / open Torch
If you have something you would like to demonstrate, or just make something while other people watch, the main demonstration bench is open for you to work on!
Wednesday, August 20th
12:00 PM: Demonstration: Emilio Santini
How to create figures with soft glass. Step by step process the Venetian way with a hint of mythology.
3:30 PM: Demonstration: Roger Parramore
The “Human Lathe” has another demo for us today: Considerations for large scale vessel forms.
5:30 PM: Demonstration: Kenan Tiemeyer
Kenan will complete a solid piece– double sided honeycomb vortex marble using Simax. He will emphasize the structural assembly of the double sided marble / vortex which he has found to be challenging over the last year.
7:00 PM: Ask the tax man
For those of you who have any tax or business questions, we will have an impromptu discussion / Q&A session with my accountant and good friend, John Brosnahan (CPA). This will be an “off the cuff” type of thing and he will address individual questions, needs, and concerns. I know not everyone will need this “class”, but it should be very valuable for those who do. It will take place around the campfire (weather permitting), or upstairs in The Bill Rasmussen Lounge.
9:00 PM: Demonstration / Lecture: Henry Grimmett & Mike Shelbo Part I
Henry and Mike Shelbo will be doing 2 workshops at AGI this year. Mike,
known for his goblin heads is an instructor at the University of California,
San Diego Craft Center. Mike will share some of the insights that he has
gained over the years while demonstrating some of his techniques and
aggressive use of the color. Henry will answer questions that may come up
during the demo. If you have questions bring them, if you have a particular
color that you want to explore further bring a rod to the class. The first
workshop will focus on striking colors, the second workshop will focus on
the opals (opaque).
Thursday, August 21st
12:30 PM: Demonstration: J.C. Herrell
JC will demonstrate soft glass techniques she has developed and employs in beadmaking with 104 COE glass such as Effetre (Morretti), Lauscha, and Vetrofond. Topics will include heat control and stringer work as well as the application and special working properties of using enamels in lampworking.
2:30 PM: Demonstration: Mike Mangiafico (a.k.a. “Fig”)
Mike Mangiafico (a.k.a. “Fig”) will be working Effetre soft glass into various forms from marbles and beads (on and off the mandrel) to sculptural insects. Mike will also be happy to share any tutorials and life insights to anyone interested.
5:00 PM: Demonstration: Doni Hatz
Automatic dispensing flask: This flask is designed to dispense a pre determined amount of liquid. The way it works is that it is tilted back to fill the calibrated section, and then tilted forward to dispense the fluid into a glass.
There are many scientific uses for this apparatus, but there are also many fun and practical things that it can be used for as well… such as pouring shots : )
7:00 PM: Demonstration; Matt Eskuche
Matt will be demonstrating several pieces from his “White Trash” series, including an exact replica (to scale) of a 2 liter soda bottle. Several pieces of this series is on display in our gift shop if you would like to see the realism that he achieves.
9:30 PM: The Body Shop
A tradition and a legend at AGI since the year 2000!
Friday, August 22nd
12:00 PM: Demonstration; Doni Hatz
Doni currently works for Proctor and Gamble as their scientific glass blower, and is a former president of the ASGS. She is ready to drop some science on us by showing us some ring seals and creating a large Klein bottle / mobius loop.
3:30 PM Demonstration; Roger Parramore
Instead of putting something definite on the schedule, we have decided to leave this space open for Roger to speak to the crowd about his work and experiences. This demonstration will be decided on by our popular demand from our guests.
Immediately following this demo will be a ceremonial dedication of, “The Roger Parramore Building”.

With over 35 years of experience behind the torch and known in the industry as “The Human Lathe”, we are very proud to dedicate one of our buildings to Roger which was recently painted with a custom mural.
7:00 PM: Demonstration; Alex V. (a.k.a. “Hasselnuts”)
Alex will be covering the following subjects in his demonstration:
-Stick stacks
-Rod encasements
-Reversals
-Inside out line tube
-Multi section windows
-Sleeving tubing with 50mm x 5mm
9:30 PM: Poker Night!
Do you like poker? Would you like to win your choice of glass art made by others in the game? Meet the gang on the main floor for a friendly game of cards. Completed glass art, materials, or anything glass related is your ticket to enter the game!

Henry and Mike will continue their color presentation, addressing specific techniques the that will focus on the opals (opaque). This will also be a hands on / interactive demonstration tailored to questions from the crowd.
3:00 PM: Demonstration; Matt Eskuche
Here’s something you won't want to miss: Matt will produce a vessel piece starting from a point and rod, and then reverse all the steps to bring the vessel back to the original size and diameter tubing and same length point and rod that he started with.
This is a demonstration that Matt has been contemplating for some time, and you’ll get to see it for the first time at AGI!!
5:00 PM: Cleanup
It’s time to shut down, pack up our gear, clean the benches, and prepare for tonight’s party.
7:00 PM: PARTY!!!
This is the last night we have together, and it’s time to loosen up and have a good time (if you haven’t done so already).
Eddie Pickett (Gypsea’s husband) will lead the AGI band, which will include live music from glass artists that also play instruments. The music will be playing, the beer will be flowing, and a pig roast will take place which is sponsored by the Butler County Bureau of Tourism to thank all of you for visiting and attending AGI.
Let’s have a blast and say goodbye to all of our friends that we’ve spent an incredible week with. Remember to stay in touch with everyone throughout the year, and please continue to share tips, tricks, and other information that you have learned and will continue to learn.
Remember to always keep in mind… We’re all teachers, and we’re all students!
