View Full Version : Beach Sand Needed!!!

We have someone attending AGI this year (Doni Hatz) that is doing a series of beads containing sand from various beaches.
If it’s not too much trouble, I’d like to ask our friends from the United States… as well as others from across the world… to send (or bring) us a small bag of beach sand (6 to 8 ounces) that will be used in Doni’s beads.
Please include the country / state of origin, the beach name, or geographical location of where the sand came from... any detailed information would be helpful.
We really appreciate your help, and I’m sure we can arrange some type of drawing for some prizes that will go to the participants.
Thanks for listening, and thanks in advance for helping out Doni : )
Much respect… Tom Doner
Please send your contribution to:

Dude, I have some of the most badass sand ever.
It is from the Montauk Project, on Long Island NY...........I do not know how many ounces I have of it but I will send what I can ASAP.
if you guys do not know what the Montauk Project was, you need to check it out on you tube or google it.......This sand is from the 90's, before the place was covered up as a park.

Beach sand from anywhere is welcome. Doni and I will be sure to do some kind of drawing for those that send a donation of sand : )
Tom
P.S.- Lewis Wilson originally asked me about this project, so you might end up with something made by "Dirty Looie" himself!

My mom has sand samples from >300 beaches around the world, with a few from above the arctic circle to several from Antarctica, and everywhere in between.
If there's anything _REALLY_ exotic you can think of or Doni wants, let me know, I'll see if she has some she can part with. By and large all her samples are under 1oz, but some she has lots of... I'll bring a few of those for sure.
And if I see any beaches between here and there, I'll stop.

Meerkat's kind of MIA for a while while he works on some non-glass stuff, you might want to PM him.

We'll send some Fri. from Jax Beach. Just thinking if it would add in anyway to the project do you want a local sharks tooth found here also in the sand?

Tom I'd love to send you some from Belize but I know it won't get it there in time for you, even DHL takes five working days regardless of their promise.
When I first saw the thread title I thought about a small tin of sand I brought from Iraq but that has a special meaning for me, the tin hasn't been opened since I closed it but it's more than that.

Thanks a bunch for the replies everyone, I’m sure Doni will appreciate it very much.
Also, very big thanks to Trev’s Glass for stepping up and offering a prize for the people who are sending sand… that’s very generous of you : )
BTW- Just because it might be “too late” for some of you to have it in Doni’s hands at AGI, please send it anyway and I will forward it to her… she’s not going to use it all here at AGI and will surely use it at a later date. If anyone can get some sand from Iraq, I’m sure it would make some very special pieces.
Thanks again everybody, and some of you might receive a completed piece, as well as the generous donation from Trev’s!
Tom
P.S.- Doni does not have a web site, but I’ll see if I can get a photo of what she’s making.

are they the little encapsulated beach scenes beads? Or a crab full of beach sand? I think I've seen something like that of hers before.
...and I will bring some of my Trinitite we can play with. It's slightly radioactive crumbly sand/glass from the Trinity site, illegal to gather now, mine is 50+ years old. It's no more radioactive than U-glass, but still... SOME PEOPLE....
sheesh
How about some aerogel sand?

I haven't seen the pieces, but Lewis told me that 6 to 8 ounces would be plenty. Also, she will use sand from anywhere and everywhere.
Thanks again!

This pendant is one of many that Doni sells at shows. She fills the hollow pendant with sand that she has collected from many places. Also she has friends that bring or send her sand.
This will bre a major surprise to get sand from many places. She told me that she is wanting sand from beaches from around the world.
I will kick in something sweet towardst he drawing for those bringing or sending sand.
Swampy. Could you please send the sand to Wonka and we can arrange to get it to Doni afterwards. You will still get in on the drawing.
Doni would like to know the country and also the beach name or location.

Yes I will do that.
Bare in mind that the tin hasn't been opened since the day I put the sand in there. As soon as we dismounted after crossing through the berm into Iraq, just north of Hafir al Batin, I put this sand in an empty sweets tin from the ration pack.
It was like the end of a grim chapter in the otherwise colourful tapestry that is my life. What better way to open it again than to give this to someone to make something of.
I'll get this in the post first thing in the morning if you send the address tonight.

I was thinking that sand from a beach in Belize might not carry as much weight. thanks.

There's some on the way from Melbourne Beach, FL. I sent some small shark teeth too, I picked out the smallest ones so maybe they could fit inside a hollow pendant or something with some beach sand. I thought it would look cool. Try it out! As Pedro at the local Mexican restaurant says "have a good enjoy!".

Thanks to all who have sent out and brought beach sand with them to AGI. So far, Lewis Wilson has kicked in a couple of prizes when he was here.
Mary (Magulosa): She received a DVD encyclopedia of boro videos
Swampy: SURPRISE!!! Due to the sentimental value of the sand you sent from the middle east, I have a Lewis Wilson sculpture of a sun faces Indian Dancer to send you (please e-mail me your adress)
We still have a drawing for the dichro strips from Trev's Glass, and a completed necklace or two from Doni.
Please contact me if you have anything on the way. If everything has been sent, we'll do the final drawing next week sometime.
Thanks everybody : )

Jeez, I didn't see this till now. I have some Bermudian sand- it's pink from the coral that BDA rests on. Shall I send it out to you, or Doni?
I'd love to send some from MI too; we have great beaches. But I can't drive for a while yet. Let me know.
