The big companies in the state are Tri-Tech (what we use), Crumpton's, and Southern Air Gas. Tri-tech/air gas have some delivery restrictions if you are in a residential area. I'm on the west coast however I'm sure you can use the yellow pages to get your local center.

Use tri-tech. Tell em you work with jeff's glass, and he said you should get the same deal. Have em call me if there are any probs. This goes for anyone in the tampa/orlando area. Should get k tanks filled for like $14 a pop.

Nodice,

Have we met? If not and you're in the Tampa area, we should link up. It's crazy how many blowers there are around here that never really get together.

I'm not in tampa. Moved to mass from tampa about 2 years ago. Hey man, do you sell to the hotbox?

Used to. I personally have been out of the pipe thing for a while now. A lot of the blowers in the studio here sell to them. Last I heard ,Brian was kind of flaking out. Anyway, if you ever make it back down this way, look us up we are always open to fellow glass peeps.

I use SE Airgas and have for more almost 30 years now. Prices are competitive, service reliable, and they match or beat prices occasionally offered to me by competitors.

We use Strate welding. Airco is the parent co. We get free delivery $1 a day tank rental for the lazer liquid tanks and 100 a fill. They have to ship it in from Jacksonville but they have always been good to us. 12.50 for k tanks but they wouldn't give that price to a new customer they said 15 is the best they can do.

Dam Sky, a dollar a day? I'm paying three...time to make some calls! My fill is only 90 but that rent adds up quick.

I'm in Daytona and use Weld Direct get T-tanks for a rapeing $30 a pop and I have to pick them up and I have to pay a $100 deposit per tank and $60 per year rental! I'm in a shop by my self, so the run off of a liquid tank in the Florida heat makes it impractical. I used to pay $17 per T-tank and get as many as I wanted floated to me free from PraxAir in Reno, NV. PraxAir said they'd give me the same deal out of Poladka but the price of gas now makes that impractical for me.

everybody I can find in my sleepy little town Deadland (Deland) will exchange full for empty but I have to have an empty to start (local weld shops or Tractor Supply Store). Or they will sell me an empty to start for like 150 - 200. Does that sound right ?? Nobody in town here has a rental program or delivery that I can see. Airgas and Tri Tech involve commutes to the "Big City" either Daytona or Orlando. . . .do I just have to bite the bullet on a new tank to start ? Can I find a used one somewhere that might be cheaper even if I have to recertify it ? I think a concentrator to run my phantom is just gonna be huge bucks . . . suggestions ?

thanks for the great input !

tri tech wanted like 160.00 deposit for each t tank ,and 250.00 to buy outright so i coughed up the extra money and just bought them,i have been with tri tech almost 10 years and have always been treated fair,i think. you might want to also consider a generater if the trips to get the tanks filled become a pain . i have a mirage with the center run on a generator and use tanked on the outer ring, it saves alot .

also depending on your torch, you might want to consider an oxygen generator

sorry, i did not pay attention to the end of your comment on the generater, my experience with the phyclone is that it does NOT run a phantom like it says,if i were you i would look at a smaller concentrator for inner and tanked for outer, i think you can pic up a small one for a few hundred .

$150 to $200 for a new tank is in the range. I found one at a yard sale and got it for cheap. It was way out of date. The re-cert here in So. Cal. is like $17.50, but if you just swap it out, most likely they won't even notice.
I also got a big acetylene tank with the deal and worked a trade with the weld shop. Those old bottles have value. I buy them when ever I can find them, even if I don't need them, cuz I can trade them in for gas or credit.
My phantom goes through a 282 cuft bottle of O in about 10 to 12 hrs,,,depends how much you use the outer fire.

Hey driftwoodsurfer.i'm up here in PC!

I use welddirect as well.lookedinto switching to airgas but it was pretty much the same.
I wonder if Strate will deliver to PC? I'll have to look into it after FAY passes.

Pacosaki -
are you running both your inner and outer ring with the 282 cu ft bottle ?

282 cu ft . . . what size bottle is that considered ? the letter size ? are you able to manage (manhandle) that sized bottle yourself ?

thanks again to everyone . . .

i believe a 282 is a "k" tank. you can get it into a truck with leverage and roll the bottom corner of it along on the ground but it's not light. 2-3 will fit in the back of a station wagon.

i believe a 282 is a "k" tank.....

Yes. If you put the back seats down in a vw golf, or subaru impreza(or larger), you could easily fit 4 tanks. Getting them into a truck isn't hard either, ya just gotta lay the top on the back of the open bed, and lift the bottom upward. They're kinda heavy, but easily doable for me(and I way about 150 wet). I probably wouldn't wanna be luggin around anything bigger though, unless it was delivered.

okay . . . sorry for all of these questions. This is all new to me. I look on ebay and they have some o2 bottles for sale. I don't see any that are the "K" size. My guess is that the smaller bottles ("d","e") are the medical use o2 and are pretty small for portablility (carrying or on a wheelchair). No "K" sizes. But then they have larger bottles where size is indicated in cubic feet. There are 20, 40, and 80 CF bottles. You said you use a 282 cubic foot bottle ?!?

I must be confused somehow . . .

An 80 CF bottle is about the size of a scuba tank. Not really useful except for maybe a minor...well if it's free maybe. It would be tough to ship a bottle so e-bay may be tough. I'd try craigslist to find something local.

How far are you from Poladka? Praxair said they'd go $17 on T-tanks(the biggest tanks they make besides liquid) and they could "work something out" on the leasing and deposits. They are a HUGE welding supply company and in my opinion the best! They lent me over 8 tanks no charge at all in Reno, NV for over 2 years. When I left I didn't even have to bring them back, I just handed them over to my friend and told them about it.

IN St. Augustine......I drive to Palatka for those T-tank prices once a week.....can't be beat.......if you are paying for a custy owned cylinder.....you can skip the hassle and use my acct.......
