View Full Version : karma game/service is pleasure

post in this thread to take part in a karma game.

by posting here you are agreeing to do a random and anonymous act of kindness to/for a stranger. don't tell us what you did, it'll just lead to pride and competition which defeats the purpose of the exercise. the reward is the feeling that you've made somebody's life better. if enough people play perhaps we will affect a positive energy that is more than the sum of the good acts we create.

i'll start off the love inertia with a rep hit for everybody who agrees to play. this doesn't count as my act of kindness, it's just a little something i can do to make the game more enticing and hopefully draw more people in to play.

hopefully in the act of secretly doing something nice we will enjoy the thrill of the game. perhaps many of us who play will enjoy it enough to make a lifestyle out of service. love is it's own reward, unlock your heart, enjoy your bliss.

be a gift that your parents gave to the world.

Been on the recieving end of random kindness. My first was a stranger who paid my tab for a multiple lb coffee buy (yirgacheffe..yummy!) . It was no cheap deal, and it was sweet, but was odd in that she saw money as the currency of kindness. And I proceeded from that point to do unto others in non-dollar means. Little things will matter to someone expecting nothing. Snowblowing neighbors out after big blows always gets a smile. And here in the notheast, I get a lot of smiles.

Go placidly amid the noise and haste and remember what peace there may be in silence...

RIGHT ON TIME! Mer, you have a great soul....

you know I'm down....

it doesn't have to be random......it could be intentful acts of kindness...

Ok but I'm only doin it for the rep points.

HaHa of course I'm only joking! I would find it more interesting if everyone posted there good deeds but maybe that takes away from the spirit of a selfless act.

I can't make up my mind how to say this with out being a jerk. I tried to express it with sarcasm but I think it could be lost. If your giving rep for a selfless act of kindness then it really defeats the purpose.

Seriously I'm game but if your motivated by rep then well ....It's lost

We're all in! I love the fact that you never know how it will come about, but its about recognizing the situation when it presents itself and doing the right thing. I also love the fact that it ALWAYS comes back to you when you least expect it and when it is most needed. Karma rocks! Good luck to all in recognizing those situations when they happen.

you're welcome to disagree and the game isn't mandatory or anything. i'm motivated by the effect that this experiment could have on the world around us. i don't feel like adding incentive undermines the smile on the recipients face when they find that some kindness has been done them.

LE has Random Acts of Kindness (ROaK).

When I have a surplus of short color rods or scrap dichro, and someone makes a comment about needing more materials or their equipment getting stolen, I usually look 'em up on the ROaK and if they listed addy info, I'll anonymously send them some extra supplies or tools. Too bad we don't have that here too...

I'm in! I've already done stuff like this for awhile. At the high school I went to, we were challenged everyday to do random acts of kindness and it rubbed off on me. It makes me feel good to know that I've made someones day, or made their life easier a bit. This world is a harsh place, but it's really nice to know there is still good out there!

I was just thinking about the ROAGK over there. I would love to do something like that here as long as it doesn't offend anyone.

^^^Sorry to be such a downer. But here's what I have to add.

If you know someone who is elderly or lonely, especially if both, please take a moment to show them some kindness. Even a small gesture means so much to them and everyone needs a little love now and again.

word up y'all!

you guys are awesome. i knew there were tons of kind people here. if you look at the timestamp on my first post you can see that i was having a good night :chilling: and i just wanted to bump the love up. of course you guys don't need to be challenged in order to be kind, you're all karmic ambassadors. :)

still, this thread makes me feel good about the community we have. we're not going to change the world, we already have.

"Do a good deed daily" is one of those mantras from boyscouts that has always stuck with me. Even something as simple as holding a door for an elderly person can make a nice difference. Plus it sets a good example for my children.

Someone said "don't we do this every day anyway"?
Its a good thought.
I am always amazed at the world we live in. Its trust based and for the most part it works. However, the little things that people do used to be thought of as simply being polite. I guess we all have to work harder at what kind really means.

Thanks for this Maestro, it struck a chord with me. I've got an idea around this...

I would also request folks share some love with fire fighters and other emergency personnel, especially with 9/11 coming up. I was lucky and got out of Tower 1 early, but watched a lot of brave folks (who don't get paid nearly enough) die for one another and people they didn't know. I don't know about Karma, but there was a lot of love.
