I'm curious how many of you ladies would be more likely/willing/able to make the trip to the female flame off if you could bring your children? Now, it's too late for me to try to organize something for this year, but maybe next year. My thoughts were a house where all the kids could stay and childcare could be traded for food/supplies for the house, time working in the house, money etc. Depending on how it was arranged and who works/runs the house I imagine glass could be traded as well. I know being able to bring my family with me would make my travels more stress free and this is something I am more than willing to put serious work in to organzing.

If I brought kids, I'd bring Dad too and they'd have their own separate activities to do, which is what I am hoping will happen in Berkeley. They have people and family in the area to visit, plus they are approaching adulthood, lessening the liability issue. Otherwise I think childcare for young children is better at home with known people, not organized by the event.

I don't know that having kids there in general would be such a good thing- even if it was after hours. I think it would put too much responsibility on the organizers and present a liability situation- not something that I think the organization would want to tackle this early in the game.

Being free to work your glass and hang with the other women is an essential part of the event. I think of it as a kind of retreat, or place to focus on glass, and not worry about family stuff.

It wouldn't be something organzied by the event...but by me alone.

i think it would be a plus and a minus. the plus, i have a hard time finding child care. the minus, bringing the fam mean it costs more to travel. overall, however i think its a pretty good idea but there will be lots of kinks to work out.

alrighty so we tried to work child care into the event this year.we understand that glassblowers that have childen specially younger ones can't always leave home to come do torch off's....but this year it is not possable because of the venue. now we have been throwing around ideas about a camp out so that the whole fam can come and not pay hotel all that....sorry about this year but every year we try to make the event better and better. if u have a venue that u feel is conducive to have a child care area please contact me threw femaleflameoff.net thankz

Thanks for the forthought, I would only be able to make it if I did have childcare there! No dad in sight!! I wished there was a way for this year, but next year I'll be there. If you need help organizing, working out kinks ect... pm me ;)

what were in the process of setting up is a committee where even females that can't be thier if they want to help can work on a specific job like advertising or promotions etc....but their will be requirments in order to be on the comittee. for example you will have had to attend at least one flameoff before picking up any responsability....feel free to contact me if you have any more questions femaleflameoff.net
