hey guys i just maid the nicest spoon to date...its rather large and thick>>> i have some areas that need to be buffed out i figure i wont get all of them on the first try so i will have to then repeat process...since the peice has made it through the first run....is it more less to crack from cooling in kiln later...i know its a dumb question

Are you askin if its less likely to crack after being anealed the 1st time?

if so I dont know but would like to..

some times they come out some times they don't if it has been over worked its hard to make it better. But through trail and error is the only way to learn what works and what does not search about divit and flame polishing in the search box and you will find lots of theory's and tips about how why and how to fix said problems.

I've found it can also really depend on what colors you're using. Shocky colors I've found to shatter when re-introduced into the flame after they've already been completed. It also really depends on how well your piece is melted in....This is just from my experience...any one else?

^^^Yep sparkly, chrome based colors, unobtanium, moss, etc are more likely to crack.

More complicated multi-section peices will be more prone to crack.

Very thick solid work, esp marbs with sensitive colors embedded very deep also are more sensitive to checking/cracking.

I forget which it is but also its better to either run it real hot (1100+ F) or cooler about (980 F - 1050 F).

When using shocky colors or colors that have alot of chrome in them, try to avoid long kiln soaks at high tempereatures. I've heard 970 is a good soak for those types of colors but if I'm wrong I'm sure someone will chime in.

i used to run at 1100-1150, i would sometimes get a checked piece but more often than not. i found out that you should run ur kiln at 1050,it works alot better, when ur fixing run it a little hotter though.

yeah the colors are simple its a three sect. peice(my first sectional) the midle is just some lines of cobalt, black and a teal color/....i dont really remember the name of....maybe teal is the name>>>> all ga color rods........so i dont think i will have a prbolem cracking bc of colors...they are to easy to work with as is....the other 2 sections ar just some fume work with dots...nothen big but prowd of it so want it to make it through.....wasnt that easy to make on a national 8 torch....need to upgrade thanks for all the great posts
