Hey guys I'm pretty new here .
I was wondering where you go to get your glass supplies(glass rods, torch tips ect.) at a good price?
Also what is the most common used size rod used for pendants, beads, and such?

To answer your technical question, it all depends, really.

Personally I would say the most versatile sizes of rods are 4mm, 6mm, 8mm, 10mm, 12mm.

Rod is available in 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,10,12,16 etc but I find the 4/6/8/10/12 are best for me.

You might like 3/5/7/ better.

For a decent sized twisty drop pendant I would probably start with 8mm rod, layer on some color, twist it up, etc. For implosions I usually start with 12mm rod. For mushrooms 10-12mm is great. But you'll also need smaller rod for punties, raking, and when you get into it, making matching earings and stuff.

I'd be happy to set you up with a decent selection, let me know.

Three works “Mountain Glass Arts”

They ship very fast and in 3+ years I have never had a single issue with an order. In July I ordered a real big paragon kiln, and it was delivered by semi to my office the next day at 3:00.

there are a lot of great distributers for raw glass. i've been very happy with winship (http://www.winshipdesigns.com/). whomever you choose you should do a search with the search engine on top of the page. there are a few places worth avoiding and you'll find that info in old threads.

I lived in South Lake for like 3 years. There's a shit load of glassblowers in that town. Some really good ones that are a lot of fun to hang with. I know a great wholesale source for clear glass in Reno. He's a 7' tall chek guy named Yanne. His number is (775)322-3302. Chinese is like $3 per pound and simax is like $5 pp. He also has ground joints and a bunch of random other things. Keeps it all in a 4 car garage with 15' ceilings, it's packed wall to wall, ceiling to ceiling. Seek out some of the other glass blowers in town and I'm sure someone will want to split some cases with you. Or get ahold of Jase at StoneCutter glassworks in South Lake, He sometimes has extra materials to sell. Some one at The buttermuffin or Heads up could probly give you his number and the number of a lot of other the other blowers in town. I think Heads Up has some materials for sale sometimes too. There used to be a shop that I worked in there called Glass Vibes that sold materials, but that's a long story.

The sizes I use the most often are: 6-7mm for punties, 9mm for punties for big marbles, 10-12mm for pendants, 18 and up for marbles.

I also use a fair bit of 4mm rod for wiping and stuff like that.

As for where I buy them, I go to a couple places - www.abrimagery.com and www.mountainglassarts.com. I've also recently been using a lot of Pyrex brand that I got from www.waleapparatus.com

I buy from Winship Designs a lot, they are in Eugene, OR and will sell individual pieces. For cases try Litton in Grass Valley, CA they have good prices on Simax.

Mountain Glass Arts is the shit. I know their not in the northeast but they are on the east coast and shipping in pretty reasonable and the customer service is the best. Check em out.

F&D are the best if your on the East coast, they sell so much glass they can get you a killer price, but shipping across the country isn't worth it for us out west. I used to live near them and would buy cases that had slight breakage super cheap!
