We've got some fantastic ideas.
One guy with the energy and dedication and creativity to push things far with the right backing.
One Mad Scientist who if we can get the right setting can create some incredible stuff with the right backing.
We are looking for investors, partners, friends to help us get on track, test stuff, play scrabble with, do production etc. so the above mentioned madman can focus on R&D.
In beautiful Michigan we have a marvelous infastructure for manufacturing and a great central location for shipping so we are also thinking distro.:devilish:
Lets go national, fug it lets go global!
Everyone is always gripeing about imports. Lets do something wild and crazy here kids, lets export!
All we need some funding, a few dedicated folks to bump our heads together with and we could all be rocking!:bouncy:
I know this is a nutzoid posting, but what the hell- Jamez

Have you looked into grant writing or possibly even finding a professional grant writer? I'm sure you could wow some people with some cool glass (non functional stuff so you can go for the art grants) and get them to pursue your cause for a contingent fee like a lawyer. I think that would be your best bet as far as funding goes because it's free money and you don't have to worry about partners or repaying loans.
As far as testing goes, I'm sure there are tons of people here, myself included, that would be more than happy to play around with some new colors for you.
Good luck with everything, I always love new colors!
P.S. Duplicate the recipe for white and green dwarf and you're golden :D
those who want to create and inovate must unforntunatly ,first create the enviroment.

Jamez,
I have and will support said mad scientist. I would call him a friend and I have witnessed first hand the knowledge and enthusiasm that Mark displays when in the right setting. I could even name at least 6 colors in other companies palettes that were developed by Mark. The guy is a friggin genius alchemist.
That said, you lost me at "let's export". IMHO there is already enough good quality American color making it into the hands of foreign "sweat shops". The last thing I would do is to support Acme if I knew the end goal was globalized color palette that made it harder for me to sell my wares.
Also, your infrastructure is not always there. I have called at least 6 times to buy color or turn you on to interested distributors, to never get through to you by phone. I e-mail to make you all aware, and I got no response.
I got mad love for Mark, and I know you have been slugging it out as his partner for years now. Please re-focus your mission statement, allowing me to know that I am supporting an American company that is not going to dump a load of quality American color in the hands of my overseas competition.
Respect,
boxfan

Investment in the color manufacturing business is not the best thing to do right now. There has been many color companies started then gone real quick due to poor color manufacturing processing or lack of money. The money needed to start a color manufacturing business is a lot and right now the industry is poor and all of us color manufactures are feeling it for sure. Tell Mark to call me I might be interested in talking about some sort of an ideas for you guys. First off you guys need first quility color to sell not half done. Color glass is not easy to make, it has taken years to perfect even easy colors so you need a lot of loot to perfect good glass and process. Good luck guys

Boxfan, as far as phone calls go we do not & have not had a business line for a bit (or a reasonable shop to work out of, although that is about to change). We do however have a number posted on our site www.acmeglasscolor.com please leave a message and we will get in touch.
Email is always the best way to reach us, but i do not believe ive received any emails from you. Please email to acmegw@hotmail.com if you want to get ahold of us it is checked daily and leave your # we will get in touch quickly.
As far as the global thing goes i was just stirring the pot (so to speak) we seriously just want to create a some unique colors to add to the already fantastic pallete available.
Realistically we are wanting to become part of the team and hopefully get into a situation where we can work with all the color companies and do distro from our midwest location. We are far to small to have global aspirations and i was just feeling beer buzzzed & fiesty when i stated this (on the rare occasion when im in this state, i like to push hot buttons).
Marc has a lot of potential and in the proper setting he will rule! We both have an extreme love of glass and its culture, and we hope we soon can be even more heavily involved with the community.
And last but not least we do not really think anyone is going to invest or partner up with two random dudes from Michigan but i figured what the hell, lets see what folks have to say. Thanks to everybody for everything over the past year and a half its been interesting and awesome to say the least. We have definately learned alot and love you all!!!!!!!
Rock on,
Jamez

James, I'm always willing to test and write up reports on color - Abe and Thomas: same goes for you guys.
You send me minimum 1/2 lb of first quality rods and I will do everything I can with them. I will give you a well written unbiased critique of the colors. In addition to my long standing reputation here as a long-winded mad scientist, I'm also a fairly competent technical writer. I spent a couple of my years in college thinking I was going to be a technical writer / editor, just never really developed that and got involved in glass and art instead.... but the skills, rusty as they are, are still around.

We are currently discussing laying low on the manufacturing and possibly getting into distribution. Well still be making color but really small batchs after extensive R&D.
What do you Michiganders and close neighbors of Michigan/A2 think? Acme wants to know.

Get a proper business plan and projected 5 year P&L written and seek a loan from a bank or VC firm. Anyone looking to make any sort of substantial investment is going to require this anyways.
If you can't do that then sell your formulas to someone who can use them.
Perhaps specialize? Fats ( >15mm) always seem hard to come by. If you made pressed boro bases in different colors for sculptures or goblets or whatever there'd probably be a market. Large roundels or other shapes to be used as sculptural elements? Try to provide a service that other color companies aren't. Perhaps provide marble/latticino stock for prodo conscious blowers, this could be at least 2/3rds clear to keep costs down.
Just some post bar thoughts, good luck.
i would love flat bar color rod..... would save me so much time......

James, as a neighbor via Lake Superior I would be happy to support a Mid-West distro company. Specifically, what type of support are you looking for... You've touched briefly on many areas and I'm just looking for more specifics.
