The tokecity piece is a joke as far as egtting info on the FFO is concerned. Sorry if this pisses some of you off but seriously. It is like a high schooler who just started smoking wrote that. It could be a lot less about how cool it is to get high and a lot more about the actual glass. If it was my event, I certainly wouldn't want press like that out there.

I'm just saying, working in this world, we get enough bad and childish press. We don't need folks out there promoting our community as burn outs. Now granted, I guess you get what you are looking for if you go to a site called tokecity...I just wish the art of what we do was a lot more in the press than the highs. It's kind of like the folks that ask for a giant pipe that says 420 and their name.

well not all of that guys writing is so juvenile he does slot of helpful product reviews and he's the guy behind glass aficionado magazine. Not to mention he's the mod on that forum which is the best resource on glasspipes there is and one of the main reasons for the sudden rise in interest about flameworking and pipes

wtf did ninja do to you? he went out there and had a blast and brought back some pics to share. the most i've seen anybody post. he doesn't claim to be the official spokesperson for the FFO, he's just sharing his experience from his point of view. ...so you don't like his culture? is that really a reason to disrespect what he shared? it's not like he's shoving it down your throat.

if you want something that focuses on the non-pipe aspect feel free to post something. i doubt you'll get bashed for it.

also, your myspace is set to private. i'd like to check them out but there's no way to really find the other pics you were talking about.

Isn't a web forum for expressing your ideas and sharing them with others? Do I not deserve my opinion? The person who wrote that never did anything to me and I am not trying to bash what he does. I'm just saying, it was posted as a place to find out some about the FFO and it doesn't offer much more than who smoked what and how cool smoking is. I understand this is for a specific audience and well done for that group I am sure. I just am not that group and expressed as much. What most of us do is a lot more than a way to get the smoke to your mouth and a lot cooler things than getting high happen at these events. I didn't take my opinion to his website and if the dude is offended by my opinion or it hurts any feeling I apologize...but seriously...anyone who is part of a culture that thinks and promotes how super cool it is to get super high has to be prepared to take some shit.

My myspace must remain private for legal battle reasons. Sunshine's is private as well but here is a link to her page.

http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=34685054

Then you only have one friendship to request and you can look at the pics then take her back off your list if you wish. If you don't have a myspace I am sorry...I am trying to get her to post the pictures on GA and/or GP.

whoa there buddy...I need to clear something up. Once upon a time I was part of a group who had the plan to form a FFO committee to take over. That group and that plan no longer exist. I backed out mere days after joining up as I cannot afford to connect myself with that particular drama again and the transition was not going to be as smooth and complete as we had once thought possible. Outside of supporting women in glass I have nothing to do with the FFO. This event belongs to Roze and I am sure she is very thankful they were willing and able to sponsor her event. Hence me saying "If it were my event I wouldn't want that press out there"...and I wouldn't...but I don't think Roze cares what kind of press she gets.

Even if I don't find the subject matter palatable, they do indeed deserve love and respect for being part of a very cool thing for women in our industry.

obviously you wouldn't write things like that if you were the person responsible for attracting funding/support.

Actually I would...but I wouldn't get the chance because I wouldn't have accepted the funding/support from a site that I firmly believe jeopardizes what we do.

The host of the event allowed contestants to make pipes and now there are pictures of questionable happenings on site on the internet...federal law still says no regardless of how easy they take it in Cali.

Maybe you live in a magic place...but where I come from it is illegal to make what I make unless I am very specific about it NOT being for that purpose...kinda hard to defend that if you put pictures of the two combined out there for the world to see.

So, while I wish we lived in a world where all of this was legal and accepted, we don't. And while I think it is fine, the man doesn't...and the man can still come take my torch and my kid. I think we should all take care to protect ourselves and the community as a whole.

But who the hell am I? Some dumb newbie? Who cares about silly things like protecting our source of income right?

There is a certain amount of responsability that comes with promoting events. Things that need to be done before and during the event. But the utmost and first thing that needs to be done is to get word out with the results. It is a contest. Therefor there is a winner. People want to know. it is part of the equation.
Nasty is posting about "
alright peepz heres the info you all been loosing sleep over:"
This is just rude. People were just wanting to know who won. A very simple thing that should have been planned FROM DAY ONE.
It is the promoter's resonsability to get the results out.
You are being advisarial . When you signed up to promote something you also signed up to get the word out. In a timely fashion. It is part of the deal. It is something that you should do with pride as a followup to a great event. You are coming off as mad that you have to let people know who won.
We live in a small community. The tool and glass suppliers can only give away so much product for events like this. They are sure to be influenced in who they give products to by what happened after an event.
Nothing listed on the web site with winners. That is where it should be posted, and soon after the event. And then it took twelve days to get a simple post with who won.
Any chance of pictures of the pieces made?
People signing up for these events expect a little PR after the event. It is good to be a winner. It is better to let people know who the winner is and to see what they made.

Roze- As Lewis said, it is disrespectful to the participants (especially the winners), as well as the sponsors that donated things to your event. Your last post seems to indicate that you’re not grateful for your spot on the forum that Misha gave you either.

If the FFO is too much for you to handle, then don’t do it. If it’s not too much too handle, then do it right and do it with respect. If you do not wish to use your sub forum any longer, I can arrange to have it removed.

I'm not really wanting to stir the pot but I find it funny how this is almost exactly where I came in when I joined the GLDG, although it was me that was doing all the pot stirring at the time as I am really against segreation in any form.

Let's not divide ourselves, do we need a female flame off any more than we need an American flame off, african-american flame off, asian flame off, male flame off, gay flame off, cat lovers flame off, blue eyed & blond hair flame off, transgender flame off, and so on and so on and so on.....

Seriously I have never understood this gender segreation thing, even since I was a child it made no sense to me why there are boy scouts and girl scouts, why can't there just be scouts and let kids have fun with other kids rather than seperating them into groups based on the shape of the flesh between thier legs, and after all aren't we just big kids ???

So it's been almost a month now?

No pictures?

The pics on the femaleflameoff.net site are thumbnail sized and don't enlarge.

Dellene's pictures are good, if you can get to them.

...

And Roze, what's with calling you contestants and interested parties names? Bitches? mother fuckers? Is that really how this show rolls?

As a new lampworking supplier (retail and distribution) I am happy to get my name out as a show sponsor, but there's no way after seeing all this shit there's any way I'd want to be involved with a show produced by or coordinated by someone with your attitude.

like Lewis and Tom have said, there are responsibilities to running a show, before AND after, and if you've discovered too late that you can't hold up under those responsibilities, or things in your life have changed then there are plenty of professional and gracious ways to bow out and reassign responsibilities.

I'm with Dondi in wondering why there needs to be a female flame off in the first place. If there really are a bunch of men and women who as a collective aren't willing work together, then they should be self excluded, not given their own event.

As for any future FFO, I would be happy to support it in any way I can Even if I don't agree 100% with the notion (I'd rather see there be no need, perceived or real, and view this as a secondary alternative to focusing the issues), I love lampworking and am willing to support anyone else who is wanting to make a positive event happen.

That means, primarily, a professional front: Good clean website, contact info that is acted on promptly, professional people responding, promoting, and organizing the show. Professional means you can spell (or use a spell check), express yourself clearly, and respect the people you're talking to.

You don't have to be well funded yet, you don't have to be famous or have lots of famous names backing you. Those come with time, and only follow after the initial professionalism is realized.

I'd think 3-4 years into this you'd have a better grasp on how to organize these things.

Also, these sub-forums seem to exist in some part to keep the drama like this contained off the main parts of the forum, so you get what you get here. So far everyone who has called you out has done so fairly and with a decent amount of respect and an amazing offering of suggestion and help. Be grateful, be humbled, and most of all, act on it.

From what I know, The FFO is about having fun.... Letting go of all the daily and lifetime stress . Forgetiing about conformity, rules and guidelines... And for once , ouside of schedules, bills, and deadlines, blowing glass for fun, friends , and good times.... Thats what the FFO is about...
Its good to see so many people interested in whats going on , but realy is it so important to bash the one who just wants to have fun..... Not everything is about how profesional one can appear..... Or who is the most organized... and can spell...

This is where we disagree obviously. I feel the term "Flame Off" has a history and certain standard defined among the lampworking industry. A "Flame Off" is all about rules, deadlines, schedules, and professionalism. They've almost always been open to the public, and as such put a public face on an industry we all love. That's not to say some level of goofing off isn't tolerated, or that every contestant is the best representative of the industry, and I've certainly never NOT had fun at a Flame Off - but the person(s) putting the event together ARE expected to be professional, organized, and responsible.

Its good to see so many people interested in whats going on , but realy is it so important to bash the one who just wants to have fun..... Not everything is about how profesional one can appear..... Or who is the most organized... and can spell...

I don't think anyone is bashing, per se. I don't even really know Roze, she could be a great person to hang out with and have a drink and be social with - this is about the responsibilities that come with putting oneself in a position to represent the industry to the public. I will admit I've heard a lot of bad dirt second hand from people, but you know there are people I have scorned in my life too. It's up to me and me alone to decide how I will filter and consider from who and what information I have and decide what I'll do with it.

I would say based on this thread, and one phone call, Roze is not someone I would hire to put in charge of an event - it doesn't mean she's a bad person.

IMHO if thats all you got, well your missing somthing here....
On with fun, Mad luv to Roze and all who support and participate in the FFO... Cant wait till next year... PEACE!!!

More power to ya for anyone who wants to make events happen - but you have to do it all the way, not half way. And for kicks, I object to the use of the name flame off, and I object to the notion of a female only gathering.

But yes, Next year is almost here, and Peace is a very good thing!
