i was just pondering... is there a guideline we have or should have for shop set-up? i think that there should be a certain way that everyone can look at and set up thier shop. it would cut down on people kickin the bucket or blowin thier regulator...etc.

The problem with a set of guidelines is that every space and every application is different. There is plenty of good advice and examples of how to (and how not to) set up ventilation, gas supply, torches, kilns, etc....

but no, there is no "industry standard" set up for a shop space.

If you have specific questions there are plenty of us here willing to lend our knowledge and expertise.

If you're looking for over all knowledge on shop design the best way to get that is to get out there and spend some time in other shops.

thx for the replies. the reason i posted thos was for the people who haven't been in a few shops,i have been to many shops and obviously thier all diff. i was just wondering and trying to help out people who aren't sure on how to. and yes i faggot that there was a sub forum on this. i also was wondering if there was an industry standard for this. maybe there should be some kind of standards that we can go by. i myself have had a few shops and had never asked how it was done i just went by what i had seen and knew from previous shops i had worked in.

There are basic guidelines for safety measures anyway...
Ventilation:
General rule is 125cfm per sqft of the opening of your ventilation hood, with adequate make up air that enters at least 10 feet from the exaust vent.

Fuel/Oxy:
Propane goes outside, ideally hardlined with black iron pipe inside, flashback arrestors are good, T-grade hoses only, check for leaks with soap/water solution. Secured O2 bottles.

Kiln:
A 15 amp kiln should have a dedicated 20 amp circut run with 12 awg wire. Don't hang your garments on it, keep it at least a foot away from the wall with plenty of overhead clearance.

Keep dust down, wet mopping is best but not always possible. Wash your hands before you eat, like mentioned above keep your beverages off the bench not only to avoid spills but so you don't end up drinking glass. Keep a fire extiguisher around..
I'm sure that I missed something but for the most part if you cover the safety stuff, there's a lot of freedom as far as setup and it's mostly personal preference.
