Anyone out there try this?

http://www.dichroic.us/html/GLASS%20BLOWING%20SUPPLIES.htm

Seems cheap enough for a newbie like myself to play with without feeling bad about burning out expensive stuff.

Or is it just crap and I need to get the good stuff?

got some of that stuff a couple years ago and it is really crappy, most of the colors come out silver no matter what you do to it, their is a blue in there that is not to bad but other than that it sucks, it kind of ruins the amusing-ness of dicro as you spend all this time working it and it turns out like crap, but it does give you practice trying not to burn the stuff off. personally I really like using the good stuff as it is way nicer to work with but that is just me.

I don't think I'd buy from them just to punish them for that site design. I want my retinas back!

I'd stay away from that stuff. Get some good dichro and you'll be much happier and won't have to wonder why your dichro keeps burning out.

i have some of that stuff, i got it from ebay but, same stuff...
if you want it, i'll cut you a deal... i believe i have about a pound...
some of it is kinda kool but, it all burns out easy in the wrong
flame environment or, in direct flame... anyway, it teaches you
how to encase and pull it out... i made my money back on it, in
one night, from using it to make pendents...

The stuff is mostly crap. The metal flakes big, and looks alot like tin foil confetti. definitelt teaches you how to not burn some dichro. i'd call glasscraft, and ask about their pre-fired dichro strips. They come like 3/8 inch by 14-16 inch, and they have already been kilned, so they seem to be a bit harder to burn out. i use the hell out of them.

The guy I bought my torch from sent me a 1/2lb of this stuff. Like others have said here - it burns right up. I've been careful with it 16 ways from sunday and I just can't seem to get it right. Except the blue (mentioned above) - seems to work ok.

Have fun...

It can be worked, It is not fun to have to worry that much. I can't say its great to practice with because if used for anything other than pendant backing and stacking layers of it to try to pull only to have it be all chunky and half burnt. Trev's sells dicro by the ounce cbs spray's for them and it works ok but that pre fired sound like a winner if its not like 20 a once or some kinda craziness. I have some two if You need more crappy dicro than Glacier can supply.lol

I've got some scrap also. I can send some out your way just so you can try it. I think almost everyone on here used this scrap. The good stuff is way better but you have to start somewhere.

i've got more value out of an oz of good stuff (DA) than 2 pounds of scrap. The scrap i have is next to impossible to not burn up and look like ash. I little dichro goes a long way, buy a 1/4 sheet of starship from DA. lots of color range, working results, and is very resilliant to burnout. prep it cool and twist out of the flame for needle like shards, or twist in the flame for more of a sand like pattern.

I use quite a bit of dichroic, mostly DA but some sandburg as well. I have lots of odds and ends, just pieces. If you want some to learn on I'll sell you some.

I would like to get a sample of trevs coatings .I used the jellyfish sample you sent me with a linx handtorch i purchased for my wife and loved the coating .What sizes do you offer the sample packs.I would like strips for backing and doing dicro line work .I would also like to know the cost of a sample pack like this .

I am working on some sample packs..
I've been at CBS taking a Dichro Desiign class so made a 19" round
underwater sea scene.. Know now the things I would do different.
2 of the gals in my class were rug designers (Also from Washington)
so they were fantastic on their designs. My pictures aren't the greatest
but thought you might like to see.
The one is a snowflake before it was coated so you can see what fun we had...
Maybe I can get some better pictures once it arrives here..
