Want to spend like 800-1000ish on a torch, big enough to do stick stacks and work 50 mil and such, kinda tryin' to avoid to pre-mix center fire, but it isn't ruled out. Post what you've got, or even any suggestions on torches that fit this description, thanks.

Does the Phantom have more of a flame than the Tiger Shark?

i rock 50x5 on my phantom all day, probably about the same size flame, phantoms got the shark beat with penatrating heat i would guess.

phantom > tiger shark

I can rip thru 44 heavy on my phantom no problem. I dont see how it could be a pain unless you just downgraded from a mirage/delta

same here, 44hvy + phantom = no problem for me...
50x5 wouldn't scare me any... of course, if you got
skills, you can work 38hvy, on a 3a, like i have done...
if you want the very best, you'll be looking @ GTT...
thats my 2 cents...

I would suggest saving your money for a Mirage or Delta, but start with a Red Max. It is a cheap torch, and very versatile. With it you can make alot of money then buy the GTT. I keep my Redmax for the soft bushy flame for doing goblets and Flares for pedestal bases on tubes. The Gtt's are awesome, but it is the lack of a soft bushy flame that is their only downfall. When I need to go HUGE I cross fire those two torches and it is perfect. Just my opinion on the torches I run but I could not be more happy. Oh and if you buy a RedMax I would suggest you also buy a hand torch with a long enough neck to work in the kiln, because it is one of the most life saving tools in the shop. You can usually find a Redmax for around $350-$400 dollars used any time of day, and a victor cutting torch(hand torch) is around $100 so with regs, and fuel lines you still have a couple hundred to buy glass or Aura glasses, or whatever.

I guess i should have been more specific, im on Hawaii, 100 per S-tank, i guess its more of me not wanting to afford, hardly really RAGE out my phantom. But i still think, if your trying to get into lots of tube pulls, / stickstacks, you might wanna step it up past the phantom... imho...

Well I'm on a national 8m right now, and even going inside-out is a project, think I'm settled on a phantom, just gotta straighten up some finances and seal the deal.

The Phantom is awesome, and a very good choice. It works tube pulls on 50 x 5 no problem! I think most people are usually afraid to max out their torch regardless of the torch they are using. My friend here in Bend Oregon Roy (the owner of a Zion's Den glass shop) Amazed me when I went over to his house for some GTT fume lessons...and he busted out 7-9 inch full color sections of inch and a quarter, and condense super quick using only the lynx center fire on his torch. Anyway know I have a new understanding of a bad ass torch. I do still love my red max though because it has always kept up with torches like Carlisle, but is a super cheap alternative. The phantom is a killer choice because in two to three months (possibly weeks) when you max it out and decide you need a bigger torch you can count on getting near retail price for it when you upgrade. Buy it from Trev's glass he is as honest and reliable as you are ever going to find and he will always hook you up as a friend in the future.

I have a tigershark for $1000, sounds like just what you are looking for, Phantom is good, but the flame is narrow, if you see one in person you'll see what I mean, i got one and was bummed, really hot and nice, but a pain in the ass to do big pulls with (it will do 50) because you have to move it around a lot.
if you want it pm me, i'll be putting pics up later today or tomorro.
