Hey there! Thanks for the reply, and inquiries! The micro bulk tank is 2000 Liters. The rent on the tank is around $450, and the fill usually costs around $1000, but they usually fill it when it's around 30% full so it never runs out! It really is an amazing piece of equipment! It actually sends a satellite signal to headquarters when it's at 30% to let them know that it needs to be filled, so we never need to keep an eye on it, or call in to order a fill. We did have to sign a pretty healthy contract on though. So we are comitted to it for some time. We love it though, and we plan on continuing to use it for years to come. We have a lot of people that come here from out of state, so we welcome anyone from anywhere!

Thanks

So how long does 70% last you guys with that many blowers? Also is it $450 a month for the rent? (on the tank) Thanks for the info.

Cool shop BTW, if roll down to Eugene I will have to check you guys out. I live in P-Town.

So It's hard to break down cost do you know how much the initial fill was or your price per liter?

I would think that's a years rental. If that was the monthly it would be cheaper to have multiple dewars.

Thanks for all the positive feedback!! That is what we are her for, so we look forward to seeing ya all!

So the rent on the bulk tanks is $450 a month. The microbulk tank is equivelant to 20 dewars(liquid tanks). Back when we did have 10 dewars hooked up at one time, each tank was around $60-70 to rent each month. Now we go through what would be around 20 dewars each month. Which would end up costing us at least $1000 per month. So there is a huge savings! Plus there is also delivery fees with each time the driver has to come and switch out the tanks. One of the biggest advantages is there is never any loss or wasted gas! With dewars they are always venting, and if they are not being used consistently they will lose gas, and when the tank is empty there is always gas left in the bottom of the tank. With the bulk tank there is never any waste! Any gas that is released due to venting is piped right back into the bottom of the tank. Plus you have to factor in the time of switching out tanks, carting them around, etc. It is constantly on, and constatnly running. The 70% usually lasts around a month, the savings for us have been a key factor in the success of our facility.

If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

I will be posting up some new pictures of the supply store, and shop a little later today or this week on myspace. Also our online store should be up and running in a couple weeks, and we'll have clothing, and cd's on there as well as glass supplies!

Thanks,

2,000 liters = about 11 dewars at 182 liters each. We pay a dollar a day rental and $100 for a fill. Just trying to figure the economics of the micro bulk. It really does seem to be the only option for a shop your size but it doesn't sound like you guys get much of a discount for being such a high volume account. 20 dewars a month for 25 blowers sounds like you guys rage around the clock! (I would have guessed half that number)
We have a teaching facility here with 16 stations (8 of them are smaller torches) a lathe plus two more flame working stations in the hot shop area. We use no where near the amount of oxygen you guys burn. I can only imagine what it's like in there with everyone working. I would guess the energy becomes exponential as you grow. (everyone feeding on everyone's energy)
One more question. How much electric do you use a month and what is your cost per kwh?
and please let us know when you get more pics up.

I am in bend Oregon, and I pay $50 a month rental on a Dewar, and $225 a fill. I have the cheapest cost of all my peers I know here, because I am locked into a quoted price, In Eugene (120 miles away it may be slightly cheaper, but states like California and (I assume Florida) are much cheaper. Go figure that the Borosilicate capitol of the world here in Oregon would have high Oxy rates, but at least I am not in Hawaii were I could not afford to work.

Ya I pay $50 rental, $20 delivery fee, $130 ( I believe) for fill. I go thru about 1 dewer a month. If I had like 3 ppl working that would be worth it. If it i = to 20 dewers and the fill is $1,000 thats only $50 a dewer, and it never loses any oxy. Pretty cheap. Divide the $450 by 3 peeps and its' only $150 a month plus fill.
My shop mate and I burn thru one a month, that big tank would last us almost 2yrs, lol.

Thanks for breaking down the numbers. I think that we used to pay around $150.00 for liquid tanks, and that was a locked in price because we had been with airgas for over 10 years. Now liquid dewars from Airgas can cost up to $230.00 for a fill from what I've heard around town. However there are a couple other place in town that are cheaper than Airgas. It is all a lot more expensive here in Oregon. We do land up getting a pretty good deal, and that is one of the reasons we are able to offer what we do for $425 a month. Our shop is affordable, and it's full, and I think that says something.

If any of you are ever in the neighborhood, please stop in and say hello!

Peace!

I was told by a friend that you maybe opening a store up in Portland? any truth to this

HEY ALL! Actually having all the people in the shop working at the same time is a stretch, but I have seen it! It is pretty cool when it happens! People that rent shop space here, are all private contractors, and are able to come, and go as they please. The shop is open between the hours of 7:am-12:midnight for people to come in and work as the choose. Each person that rents space per month is given an access card so that they can come and go as they please even if the supply store isn't open. This seems to work well if people have other jobs, or are even going to school.

We do go through a lot of gas, most of the folks in the shop work 10-12 hr days. It is a very productive atmosphere.

We were planning on starting a supply store last month, but unfortunately with the economy we have postponed the opening! I am very bummed about this, because I was really looking forward to expanding, and providing our services in the Portland area. I have been searching for the perfect store location since June. I have been very particular about the spot and the feel of the location, because I want glass blowers/lampworkers to be pumped on the store. I have been in a position the last couple of weeks of not being able to decide between a handful of locations. This is still our goal, however it has just been postponed! We will keep everyone posted! It will most likely have some shop rental as well, which I have had many inquiries about.

In case anyone is interested we have a new GTT phantom for sale at our store here in Eugene for $1225.
Thanks

I have spent some time working at the cornerstone. It is a cheap and easy place to set up shop while you're on the road. A great place to network and pick up supplies on the spot! Lots of cool people there!!!!!

Cornerstone,

We have a similar set-up here St. Pete, FL. I was wondering about your access cards. I've been wanting to put in a system like this for a while now. Are you able to track who comes in and when, or is it just an electronic lock? Also, did you buy the system aftermarket or was it already installed in the building?

We've got nine stations and when at full capacity, we blow through around 6 dewars a month, you guys running all large GTT or something?

JStone

Hey there! Great to chat with someone regarding this stuff. Part of the access system was previously installed. I wasn't working, and so I got it up and running, by putting in a new reader, and control panel. This was 4 1/2 yrs ago, so then I just kind of did what I could afford at the time, and got a basic setup without being linked to a monitoring system that tracks who comes in, and when. I actually just got a couple quotes last week to upgrade to a better system, and will probably be going to something that is linked to the computer inside. Any security company should be familiar with these systems, I think the magnetic lock works great!

We have 25 stations all rented out at the time, but I am finishing up another 4 person this weekend. A lot of the guys have GTT mirages, and deltas. Some Carlisle CC's, and a couple CC+. Maybe 4 Bethlehem PM2D's. Everyone uses large burners. We are now going through our 2000L microbulk tank every 2 1/2 weeks. Any other questions, let me know!

Thanks!
