View Full Version : Is anyone using nortels air movers to vent?
I am setting up my new shop, and have been searching for venting gear when I came upon this (http://www.nortelmanufacturing.com/airmovers.shtml). Is anyone using one of these for venting. The big one is only $260 and looks like it will move a lot of air with very little noise. I talked to the New York office but they told me to call the canada office for more info on there movers, thought I'd ask here before calling to canada.
any info is appreciated.
Peace

Looks like they're way too small for much use. The largest one has less than 1000 cfm at 0" SP. And it's only about 6" long.
It looks like these are small air movers for industrial application, where you have a process that needs air movement on an assembly line.
You could maybe gang several of them together in a box, and make something work.... but that woiuld start to cost moer than a comparable exhaust fan....
and the compressed air input means running a compressor almost non-stop, which means you need either a really good compressor with a 100% duty cycle, or you use a cheap one that under the strain these will put on it may last a couple years before you have to get it rebuilt.... not cost effective either way for what we're doing.
Still, cool idea, and maybe if you could scale it up to something capable of moving more air... but even thern the compressor is gonna get you.
I'd call Canada tho, talk to Jean if you can, she'd know the most about their applications in lampworking I'd imagine.

well we can clearly see by the diagram that regular air, and compressed air merge in the machine to produce "made in canada" which is then pushed out the other end...

{giggle giggle.} Oww, my tummy. I ate too much Chinese buffet. The poor Chinese people down the street will be posting a loss today because of me. The trick is to not eat the rice or noodles.
Um... oh yeah, sorry to thread jack. Carry on, carry on.

It says the output is 20 to 25 times the amount of compressed air consumed.
5% of the evacuated air has to be clean air run through a compressor? Seems like a bad idea for our application.
Yea I talked to the canada office, they said it is more for industrial cooling. It could work if your shop is already piped with a huge compressor and lines, like my granite shop, but not the best for lamping. Thanks for the input doug, and thanks for the laugh Andrew.
Happy New Year,
Nate
