welding supply companies. Avoid praxair. I've had good luck with Airgas, but from reading here on the board, customer service seems to vary from location to location. But most people here will tell you to avoid Praxair. The smaller, more independant and shoddier the place looks the better the deal may be. There is a Welder's Supply Company in Burlington, Wisconsin that has good rates and the people that run it are cool about working out better rates for those that use a lot of OX. The place is a total dive, messy, but I loved dealing with them. Shop around and never pay what they want for refills, talk them down. Also, don't tell them you blow glass, say you work wrought iron or something and that you will be burning through a lot of oxygen using a rosebud torch. (a rosebud is a large torch head typically used on welding torches for preheating thick plate steel) The gas suppliers can be total rednecks, so think about your image when you go in, remember you will be trying to talk your fees down.

don't lie about what you do unless it's something you really do.... if you don't know about welding or wrought iron work, don't say that's what you do... you'll get laughed out of the shop after the first question.

I agree- you don't want their first impression to be that you're a haggling liar. Plus being up front about the glass may get you some sales, freebies or a better deal like it has for a number of people here.

Why is there a pop quiz after you tell them what you do?

....
Sometimes.
It's more a matter of If than When really, but do you want the guys to think you're a glass blower or an idiot that doesn't know what he's talking about? Which gets taken more seriously?
I've never had a problem with praxair, I've been using them for 3 years now and I think one time I might have got a 1/2 full tank which they credited me anyways

Where is the country are you located? It does vary somewhat from area to area..
What kind of price are they charging?
What size tank?
What torch are you using?
Depending on your torch size would greatly effect the oxygen genorator question.
