i figured out a sweet trick for making these things by hand. they work great as a jar and aren't awkward to smoke out of...

Bates, you need to patent your stuff. You have so many crazy ideas.

That is cool I think if you could make it long and skinny with a small inside, you could put the bowl on the side instead of the end, but it looks sweet as is.

Nice, I've never see one before (gotta try to make one tomorrow)... Mad props! You blew my mind with the glass glass torch, and again with a functional jar!

+1 rep!

I would be amazed if you put a tutorial up. some stuff i just dont expect people to share. killer idea man, you do need patents on this tight shit. I only have one question, is it all one piece of glass or is it basically like doing a huge drop stem kinda? I've seen double blown clear mugs at starbucks that are exactly like that minus the bowl, its just like a cup hovering in a bigger cup. id love to try to figure these out

+1 for a great and useful idea.

Thought I am a bit negative on patents, mainly from the computer world. At times it will stifle innovation. Though those that do create something similar to this, should really give credit where it is due. Now and open patent, that is a different sorry. Enough of that patent crap it will start a debate where there need not be one.

The work and the idea are awesome. this could bring about many different ways to make functional jars.

I dont feel like you can patent glass but maybe .....anyway that look pretty easy to make , it's a ring seal ? no...btw your idea is nice ! that look super functional !

a ring seal...ya kinda, but like the title says a dewar jar, and is made with a dewar seal,

Not that it isnt a ring seal, but like how a square is technically a rectangle, but are better known as squares. I would say that this is best described as a dewar seal.

there has been a company that claims to have a pattent,or one in the works or whatever, for a specific dewar seal.....I call shenanagins.

how can you pattent something that sci workers have been doing for a looooong ass time.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter who else has done something, to patent it you just have to be the first one to do so, as long as it meets certain requirements. Not saying that's the case here, don't know the specifics, just in general. I'd be surprised if you can actually patent a glassblowing technique, and even if you could, good luck actually enforcing it. I think most people here know once you post pictures of something, its pretty much fair game. This post is a almost a year old I'm sure someone else here has tried it by now.

I don't think he is claiming the design, I know a guy by the name of Mitch who has been making these for four+ years. He did say he figured out a 'trick' to making them by hand..
they are cool though.

is the jar also the mouthpiece?
it would be insane if you could make the bowl and jar seperate, and have the jar also be it's foot
