so, i need to re-up my glass stash, but there are some holes in my lineup....just curious what people use for what, and what fits inside what.

up till now, my staples have been:

rod: 5, 7, 9, and 25
.....i need something in the 12-16 range for pendants and whatnot, what fills that gap best for you?

tube: 12hvy for blowtubes, 25 hvy, 38hvy, 50x2.5, and 50x5
......what makes a good sleeve for what? 50x2.5 can sleeve 38....usually.....but that's about all i got.
oh, and is there a sleeve that fits over 12 well for slides? i have 9.5and 12std. but that 12 is such a bitch to cut without crushing it, and i don't use either for anything else....

basically, i'm fishing for opinions, i'd rather ask around than end up with cases of odd sizes that i don't like to use for anything collecting dust.
thanks

Isn't the rule wall thickness doubled, subtracted from the tube size = I.D. for sleeving? But I'n not sure what equation to use for wonky tubes. Get some heavy wall blowtubes, those scribes suck ass for thin wall. Mike-

For sleeving I use 38x4 sleeved in 50x5. Makes a crap ton of tube and it's nice and thick. You have to marver the color smooth before you sleeve so it will fit in the tube but the end result is nice.

i like to use 10mm and 12mm rod for pendants

i use 9.5 and 12 for blow hoses you tend to need them both

for inside out work i use 40x2.8 and 44x3.2

outside i use 19, 22, 26, 32, 38, 44 depending on the size of the finished piece..all hvy wall(3.2 for 19&26, 4.0 for 26 and up)

for puntys and bridges i like 7mm( i like to rake with it too)

I just checked with some tube over here at GreyMatter and that seems to hold true. You might try 12mm rod for a prodo pendant stock. And I fully concur on the 3mm rod, its fun.

OOPS... it should be obvious that Doug(e) did not write the above response. Doug(e)'s actual response will include equations, theorems on how to derive a given tubes sleeve ability, as well as a short essay explaining the philosophy of stocking glass, and 3 pages about why you are wrong about what you think. He will also be dead on accurate though.

I actually wrote the above reponse.
