Not sure how many of you know Lance who is my business partner. Lance's dog Balou was hit by a car last night and passed away some hours later at the hospital. If you have the time to reply to this thread or send an email to us addressed to Lance and give him some positive energy that would be helpful. I can't imagine how much it hurts right now for Lance to lose his best friend.

Balou was ditched outisde a neighbors' house of mine about five years ago and Lance adopted him. Balou was a Great Periness(sp?) and Akita mix and was always full of playful energy and was such a lover.

He will be missed by all of us. We love you Balou, rest in peace. We love you Lance and I am so sorry for your loss, my family and I are here for you.

Love Josh

My condolences go out to you and your family. A sudden loss of a good friend is never easy. I am sure you made the last five years of his life a lot better than they would have been as a stray.

Oh man, I'm so sorry to hear of losing a great friend. I raise Akbash a relative of the Pyranees and they are such amazing and wonderful dogs and I'm sure Balou had a great friend in you as well. My condolences go out to you.

Beautiful dog. I put my Basenji down in July after almost 16yrs. When you lose your best friend you realize that your not that tough. I recently got a new friend from the pound and it certainly helps. she is an absolute sweetheart but somewhat of a bed hog.

I feel for you. It might be therapeutic to make an urn or memorial , to remember Balou.

Dam Cars, they are a blessing and a curse.

Aww man, that's terrible to hear. I've never met you or Balou, but I know the feeling. My pets are more important to me than most of my relatives. Give him a proper sending off ceremony, take the time you need to mourn, and then when you feel that the time is right, give another puppy from the pound a better life.

Good thoughts coming your way.

lance,
i cant put into words how much i sympathize with your pain. that is just a plain ole shitty thing to happen and nothing any of us says or does can bring back your beloved friend. may balou rest in peace.

last august i had to put both my 14 year old boys(mutts) down due to cancer withing 2 weeks of each other and it was the hardest thing i have ever had to deal with. i brought them home 14 years ago from the pound the same day and they both lived great lives. they were my best friends.

it is true what people say about time healing all wounds. it took me several months to get to a happy place and think of the good times i shared with my boys instead of just greif. but in the end i know i gave them a great home and tons of attention as i am sure you did your bud balou. i am sure that is all they want . to be loved , wanted and cared for.

my wife and i are volunteers at the local animal shelter and i guess maybe 4-5 months ago she came across the scroungiest mutt i have ever seen. we fell in love instantly and brought the scruffy sucker home. he is a great dog and 100% different than my other two were. i always had big dogs until this guy. he is a true lap dog.

being at the shelter and helping other animals has helped give us a sense of closure. it reaffirms the fact that there are millions of other poor innocent mutts and cats that just want a good home and a warm lap to lay in. we know we cant save them all and it is hard to leave without a new animal everytime, but we are looking at the big picture which is they need all the help they can get at theese places. (very little money goes to them so they rely on volunteers)

he(gizmo) is in no way is a replacement for my other two boys i had to put down and it did take several months before i was ready to be a parent again but i am sure glad i got another friend to have at my feet constantly.

i have always had pets and i cant imagine a life without them. they are the real deal, no b.s. , just plain ole good intentions and curious ways.

i say to you. do not rush into getting another animal. you will know when it is right for you. take the time that is needed to get closure from this terrible event. no one but you knows how long that is, but it does get easier to deal with every day that passes.

once again, i am sorry for your loss. jay

josh, make sure Lance checks his messages. i totally understand taking some time away from the phone, i think my message would do more for him than a forum post.
