I have had an idea for a while for an online forum that I wanted to build and finally found a programmer to do it. He started the forum in druple which is alright but this v bulletin seems better.
Anyways, he has since flaked on me and I would rally like to get this site going. Is anyone familiar with druple or v bulletin and php? Would you be willing to build a site for me and what would it cost? Just so you know this is a non profit site/social experiment. Here is the rough draft of whats already done www.chathamhelplist.org
In case your wondering the site is an online list used for barter and trading of services in my community. I am happy to pay someone well to do a good job but keep in mind this is a non profit site made to save the world. Thanks for any help, J

Just dive in..... Go to V-Bulletin site and read some, they even have a trial site to walk you through setup....
http://www.vbulletin.com/
http://www.vbulletin.com/admindemo.php
Here is another one that seems pretty popular and easy to setup...
http://www.phpbb.com/index.php
http://www.ohloh.net/p/phpbb
Almost anyone can have a site up in a couple of hours, even a blond....
To finesse the site takes days or months.....

Its a "mark up language" it should not be computer type specific....
Be it MAC or PC that you use, its does not care, its a "network" application, not a computer application...

Whatever bulletin system you commit to, make *sure* that your pet geek gives you clear written instructions on exactly how to keep it up to the latest version. PHPBB, vBulletin and Wordpress are some of the most hacked-on packages out there. If you don't keep them actively patched, eventually script-kiddies from Turkey or wherever (I've seen activists from Turkey do it repeatedly to various places I hang out) will pwn it.
Also, make sure that they give you a clear, easy way to back the whole thing up regularly, and that they automate it.
