This guy taught me just about everything I know about moving and shaping glass. When I first stumbled onto the black board over 5 years ago, some of the first friends I made on there were KC and his brother, Ryan, and they basically rocked my glass world with their knowledge. They came over to my shop when I was only a few months into glass, and showed me everything they knew with open arms, open hearts, and open minds. KC and Ryan became some of my best and most trusted friends. Just throwing that out there since he doesn't post much - he does have some deep roots in our community.

I'm glad you're back in the shop KC! Keep on sharing your work with us. I'm always thinking about ya brotha...

KC dropped by the other day, so I snapped some less distracting pics of his pieces, however, I feel the white background is a little too sterile for his pieces. What do you guys think? They need some sort of wood or natural background to really set them off.

KC is also joining my shop here in NorCal in the next couple of weeks. I'm friggin stoked - he is one of my favorite people to work with. I feel some big collabs coming on!!!

Marble blow out? Is that when you get a gather then color it up then indent the back and place it on a blow tube? Must be big marbles for pieces this size?

pstvn
03-20-2009, 10:12 AM
so effin cool mr wiz! maybe you could give us a tube manipulation tutorial,eh?

MrWizzard
03-20-2009, 02:48 PM
the marble blow outs im referring to are made as follows start with large size rod like 25 mm or 34mm or something like that section off a good three inches of it, get the whole bastard molten then shape into a large chocolate ship shape. feed color rods into the flat broad end in a mushroom marble like fassion until you have a ratio of about 1 part color to 2 parts clear. push a large exagerated bowl shape into the color. marver the edge of the bowl down to fit a 12mm blow tube. attach blow tube.......heat and blow.

you can get good effects with layering colors like silver unobtanium-blue carmel and peacock chameleon, or mystery aventurine with a small layer of ambrprpl then black violet.

i appreciate all the feedback everybody thanks so much...

03-21-2009, 12:41 PM

Tight work wiz. looking at this stuff make's me want to work on the torch. very inspiring stuff.

Couple questions??
How big is the section you get from blowing out a 3 inch chunk of 25mm rod, and what is the clear to colour ratio you use ( 3 to 1) less/more?

MrWizzard
04-09-2009, 01:04 PM
well kurt the last piece i showed was one of those torn in half. the ratio is usually clear/color between 3/1 and 1/1 depending on the colors.
