View Full Version : Fuming Temerature
I want to try experimenting with getting fuming to strike in the kiln. I thought I had read on here a while ago about turning kiln up to a really high temp say 1275 or so. I have searched through past fuming threads and have not found anything about going up that high. I was just curious if anyone has had success with this and what is roughly the highest temp you can go before the glass will start to slump or deform. Any tips on this would be great and I will post pics of any success I may come across just hoping to not lose some work due to going to high. Peace justin

ive never messed with kiln striking... as far as in the flame... heat the mass just to a lite red... so the whole piece is hot, but not fluid... orange or yellow and youve gone to far, and are actually burning out the metals... repeat this several times, letting cool inbetween, and you should get a desired effect, after some trial and error...

I've found 1175 for about 15 minutes after the piece has been soaking for a bit to get a nice even heat causes a nice strike. This is color dependent, though. Then follow your normal annealing schedule.
