i've been wanting to do this for a few years now but never had the lathe to do it, so now that i have the lathe i was able to make it.. took about 8 tries to get something functional.
there were some difficult seals on this thing, but once i worked through the process i figured out most of the kinks..
all feedback is welcome and appreciated!

Seeing this stuff makes me want to learn the lathe. I've made pipes on the metal lathe in shop class, but this looks like too much fun.

hey everyone, i've been working on this design for a few months now, and would like to show ya. Also if anyone could help me with pricing this thing to sell that would be awesome!
also if anyone knows where i can buy boro sheet to slump into those coal trays, and of of course the hose fitting is a female to make glass on glass hoses!
thanks again everyone!

nice shaping yes but how is the functionality? I mean it looks like a lot of stale smoke might hang in there for 2nd and 3rd in line, just saying okay... :-)

Nice work on that. Its definitely possible to use slumping to make a glass coal tray, but you could probably also do it pretty much just like making a goblet foot, or ashtray. Make a largish flattened bubble, open a hole and spin it super fast while heating the lip, and it should open up into a similar shape as the tray you've got there.
Good luck!

hey swampy, with a hookah i dont think you worry as much about the stale smoke. There is a valve on it to relase some of the stale smoke. I think they function better than any metal hookah i've ever smoked out of and i'm not just tooting my horn.
Hoss thats a great idea i'll try it, thanks for the idea!

agreed, that metallic taste is nasty. Stopping the bloody thing toppling over whilst tanscending from the vertical to horizintal to levitating was another consideration but looks like you got it covered with a heavy heavy base.

yeah that looks like it probably functions about as beautifully as it looks. very nice work, and i dig the funnel bowl. do you plan on trying a vase too? or did you make that one?
as for price, tough to say. 100 seems pretty reasonable, but i think you should get more, considering the amount of work and ingenuity in there. once again, beautiful work, i hope to see more of these in the future!
