Working on my Implosions..

Hello All!

I'm a scientific student so I don't get a lot of torch time for artistic stuff (although more now than in the past). I've been working on small implosions a lot recently so I thought I would throw some up!

I'm still trying to work on getting better pictures with correct lighting...

All are tube implosions and done on 20mm Standard Wall tubing, with tiny stringers. Each are about 3/4" in size. The last one was done on 32mm Heavy and is about 1.25".

your doing great.

there is some real depth to a few of the mibs that i am truly impressed with.

i do all my mibs with solid rod and the implosion/compression never has that kind of depth.

keep up the good work and post more pics

You're doing great, you got some good movement in there.

The only thing I'd say is regarding the first two, with so many air bubbles... did you hold your rod too close to the torch and boil the glass?

331 - Yeah my rod implosions only get the highest of about the middle of the marble, tube implosions for me are much, MUCH easier to get depth.

Swampy - Definite boiling, I work everything hot and each of these guys still take me about 30min.+ I work most of the time at the base of the flame and cook everything... I need more patience or a better flame choice... Maybe both.

well done, there is a lot of work just in the marbles pictured. good job on the photos too.

bzglass - the current torches at school are brand new Knight Dragon Masters.

I hate them.

If you have the option between a Carlisle CC or a Knight Dragon Master get the CC. Same flame for the most part, but the Knight heats up like hell. The heat gets so intense on the body and valves that the valves will swell and become very tight when working with it...

20 NEW torches and each has its own problems. Some center fires sputter, bent internal valve seals causing flames to shrink before getting larger, and the torches constantly blow themselves out.

30 year old carlisles were better than these brand new knights. I posted pictures of the Sargent I got off ebay for just over $400 and that beats these knights hands down.

Edit - What do you guys use to defuse the light for your pictures?... I'm currenly using a cardboard box with holes and white cloth covering them, it works but the colors aren't as vibrant and the glass looses its reflective qualities and clarity.

Well these are the last marbles I'll have up for a while... done school... don't know when I'll have my own shop set up...

For the photos, I'm still trying to get the lighting down... With a light tent I get less of a shadow and glare, but w/o it I get sharper and crisper colors. What lights do you guys use for your photos?

These marbles range in size from .5" to 1.5"

Tube implosions and rod implosions.

I still boil like crazy.

The last ones are my first experiments with Uranium. Love the stuff.

yeah i like that fluidity you have with everything, fluidity comes always, and so everything you have will always sell.
that uranium stuff is way cool mixed with color and just by itself. how does it work?

have you done sculpture work?
i could see putting one or a few of those into a sculpture and it being sick

Hey guys thanks for the positive comments! For you guys that do implosions, how do you keep the colors from boiling yet still get intense, penetrating heat? For instance, how do you implode a crayon color? I can't do it w/o boling it like crazy.

Crip - Each tube implosion (the ones that fill the whole marble and have smaller dots) is just a bubble and then straight implode, no marvering. Each rod implosion is about 3 marvers total just to push the color up in the clear some. Each rod implosion barely makes it 1/3 of the way into the clear. I can sometimes get tube implosions all the way through entirely.

sertaiz - The Uranium is awesome, just expensive and hard to find. It is softer than borosilicate so it melts a bit faster. I have not done any sculpture work. Only thing I have done in the past 2 years is scientific school work and marbles in my free time.

ivebeenshotafied - smaller marbles are .5 inches the largest are 1.5 inches.

Thanks again for the positive feedback guys! Anyone have advice on how I can make these better? Places to look for new and interesting dot patterns? Best colors for implosions?
