Hey guys/gals,

I am going to be putting some of my pendants on ebay. Any advice when it comes to taking good pics. I'll be using a 7.1 mega pixel camera. I'm thinking about a black cloth background. Do i need to use a tripod?

Glass is a difficult subject to photograph. Use the search feature and look for some of the past photo threads. You'll want a tripod for sure, and some good bright lights, and a decent knowledge of how to set your camera up.... experience and practice count for so much that it's really not worth explaining the minutia here, as you'll get it as you go along.

good luck on the bay!

I use glossy paper as my background, cloth will show the wrinkles. A tripod is a nesssity. My pics are viewable on my etsy page linked below. Good luck with sales.

Graymatter - I'll check out some of the past threads.

Emmett's - your pics look nice. Thanks for the tip on the glossy paper, it looks a log better than the t-shirt i was using for a background. :rolleyes

Thanks for the compliments on my pics. The glossy paper will last a while but they get scratches. I see WA as your location, are you in the Seattle area ever, hit me up if you are.

Here (http://www.talkglass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=25264) are some of my best pictures. We built a light table to light from underneath and one spot on top. Glass is very hard to shoot. Keep it simple with only one or two lights from above to minimize hot spots. Also, play with the "white balance" on your camera. I don't know how to explain it but just mess around until you get some shots with accurate colors. These (http://www.talkglass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=25002&highlight=opal) are pictures I took at my house on a black fabric with a very fine weave and the flash on my camera in macro mode. They're not great but not too bad for only spending a few min on them. Always use a tripod so you can get slower shutter speeds. Good luck.
