why cant I post replies in a thread I started?

I was curious as to why I cant reply to posts in a thread I started or in any other thread... I get a message

Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.
Do I simply have something set up wrong in my settings or something?

Also, the system may be logging you out due to idle time spent typing. Make sure to click the "remember me" (or whatever it says) box next to the login field.
