Oooh I wonder if anyone told you guys...there will be glass blowing demos! Raz, David Salazar, Kevin Nail and Eugene Rain, and we might squeeze Stephan Pope in there.
I must say, I'm bloody tired, but I'll be down there with bells on shortly...

madison show was ok. We usually have a buyer that shows up and makes our show but he was replaced this year by a few smaller buyers. Can't expect much from an antique dominated show that costs $25 for a table. The night out before was the highlight. We went out but avoided the state street riot scene. How was the portland show?

It was pretty good... always could use more sales but at least it wasn't a "no sales" event. Our demos got canceled unfortunately.. our friendly fire marshal almost had a heart attack when he realized what we were about to do :lol I actually was kinda glad... there we were, in a fully carpeted room- even carpet on the walls... oh yeah AND our bench was a plastic table so I wasn't exactly feeling SAFE.. and ventilation was non-existant. Fire code is there for a reason and I was actually happy about that, heh. Seemed like there was some miscommunications that occured between the hotel manager and the show organizer. I'm sure all those details will be worked out next year. :)
Overall I was pleased with the exposure- lots of people came and I enlightened plenty of them to what "fuming" is which is always fun to explain... I feel like a lot of these shows are functioning as a mass marketing device for all of us that would like to sell more marbles- even glass art in general, more so then a place to make a good income. Plus of course, this was only the second annual show so we'll see who's coming after several more years.
Right after I was talking to another blower about that- a guy came up to my table, looked at everything, then said, "You know... I just had no idea that this [referencing the marble scene] even existed!!!" Who knows- maybe that guy now has an itch to buy someday that he'll scratch... he was obvoiusly blown away so I'm sure he told his friends who will hopefully show up next year...
and spend million$!!!!! :lol
I don't know if Chris visits the board but a big thanks to him for putting on the show!!! :D
The Fire Marshal thing was the funniest thing I have seen in a while. ( Bummer the demos couldn't happen but Kevin was right it just wasn't the place for one)
So anyways The Fire Marshal was going through the long list of reasons why the demo would be in violation....( I mean Long list) lol.
He reaches over to grab the fire extigiusher that is apparently not charged enough and a in violation of code and the hose that attaches to the nozzles falls right off and lands on the table. He didnt do anything more than touch the damn thing and it fell off. Milk would of shot out of my nose if it had the chance. Anyways it was a good time even without the demos. Big time bummer for those who lugged all the equipment there.
The selection of marbles was great. So many styles and incredible work. I was surprised at the low prices on some of the marbles though. It almost seemed like wholsale pricing in a retail show. That's Oregon I guess. I look forward to some of the other shows in other areas.
There also seems to be a big void between some vintage collectors and the contemporary marbles. They are not yet totally aware of the technichies and possibilities. They are learning though.
