That's it...Do you prefer sitting or standing for the bulk of your work hours?

Or maybe 50/50.......Or just keep the torch at eye level?

I used to be a sit down worker. Then as I grew into bigger torches and prep techs standing has slowly become the norm.

I make mostly beads, so I sit mostly - I have a Minor, and have it raised up on the bench, and my rolly chair is at the lowest height setting, so I'm forced to sit up straight. Having said that, I do like to stand while pulling stringers or doing twisties.

When Jerry built my torch bench, I asked him to make the hood high enough so that I could stand and work without bopping my noggin...and he did! :bouncy:

stand 100% torch straight up as close to me as comfortable, wings in, working as close to eye level as possible.

50/50 for me.
my leather "motorcycle" seat is too high so my torch is like stomach level. better do something about that.

50/50

i have my table at 50", so when i stand the torch is at the same level as when i sit.

I stand 100 percent of the time unless I'm giving a demo because its easier for everyone to see over me than around me.

so, all you standers where do you have your torch in relation to your body..at sternum level? Or at eye level...I am wondering cause of my neck probs., I think it is hurtin me to look down a little, I am thinking of raising my torch up a bit.

i have my torch so that where i work in the flame is just below eye level most of the time. i have it pointing up as much as possible, this way its closer to you and your shoulders blades dont spread as much while you work.making the torch height adjustable is a good idea change it up and down by a inch or so every few days and that changes your postion a bit every day so your body doesnt get set in a rut postion wise.

YES!!! Get your torch raised up...it WILL make a difference. I experienced awful neck pain before we raised my torch.

It REALLY helps if you have your torch unbolted, and have a friend (who you trust to NOT drop your torch, LOL) raise and lower it while you're in your work position (sitting or standing), so you can figure out for yourself where that torch should be for your best ergonomics.

Before you make a final decision, take a look at your posture and how your arms and shoulders feel - try to get yourself into a good comfortable neutral upright position, chest up, shoulders back and relaxed, chin up.

While you're at it - if you're standing, consider one of those restaurant mats to stand on, and if you're sitting, think about if your chair is the right height for you, and whether or not you can adjust it.

For what it's worth, I run a Minor, and the tip of the nozzle (where the flame shoots out) is about even with my chin... As I said before, I do most of my work sitting, as I make beads. I've also got some ghetto elbow pads bolted to my torch bench, to better cushion all those nerves on my elbows.

Sending good ergonomic mojo your way,
c

I stand. I welded a torch stand together that has a telascopic base so I may adjust the height if need be. But i never sit down so it never moves. The bottom of the torch is about six inches above the bench, so i never hit the bench with my blowtube anymore.

I am workin on it, I have to get some more hose...and I am changing some other stuff around. I am planning on having it(mirage) at about chin/eye level....just seems high to me right now, I am not used to it, I am used to looking down on it. Ill let you ck it when I am done. Thanks.

lol props to you crip I cant imagine blowing glass sitting down the whole time but you must be used to it.

At least you dont get lower back pain from standing on concrete all day.
