Question:

I have a sherlock bub that has some "scars" in the can. By scar I mean, a crack, that goes around and up the can, from near the bottom to about the middle of the can. I think, I set it down too hard once...something. It crackled around the can. The bub also has a pretty large marble hanging off the side....the marble is about 1" dia with my name in the middle.

Now, is this something that can be fixed? And will fixing it wreck the current design/patterns that are in it? I have this vision that it could be just put back into the oven and baked and the scars will just melt together. Of course, for some reason, I don't think it will be that easy...

I'm no artist, just an ardent consumer who's trying to figure out if he's recently thrown $5 down the drain :tantrum:

Thoughts?

BTW, yes, I will post a pick tomorrow when I get home from work.

Make sure it's clean before you post the pic....VERY IMPORTANT...

And no...you can't just stick it in the kiln and mend the crack. You could try re-heating it in the kiln to 1000 or so degrees, let it soak for a bit so the whole piece is heated inside asnd out. Then hit the crack with a strong pinpoint flame, but honestly if you have no experience with a torch then you shouldn't even try.

WOW, bubbler w/ custom marble for $5? Id say you got your $'s worth after 1 use. On the other hand, it sounds repairable, especially if its not in pieces already.

Ha.

By $5, I meant $500.

And, since I got no torch skillz, I was hoping that if fixable, I could find someone to help me out.

Sorry for the confusion.

It sounds like it's fixeable to me. It could also break into pieces while trying to fix it. It could mend very easily, and you might not know there was a crack ever there, or it could leave a scar(break in the pattern where there was a crack because clear glass fell between the pattern when fixing), and or change the shape of the piece depending on what needs to be done. Either way you're probably better off trying to get it fixed before the crack goes all the way around the can and turns it into two pieces. If you want, I'd give it a try. $10 deposit, $15 more if I fix it.

wow nodice your cheap :) i charge $25 to touch a piece, another $25 when fixed ya we need pics man to know hoe easy/hard its going to be or if even possible. finding a local would probably be key so as to avoid shipping it and furthur cracking possibly from ruff handling. if its still in one piece with a bit of care and patience it should be able to be fixed with minimal scaring or mishaping of the piece if any. good luck piece brett

........ By $5, I meant $500.

Lets see this piece, I am thinking it's more egregious you paid that much than the $5. For that kind of money I could get you a fully worked chaos bubbler, wouldn't have your marble with your name in it but still that would include shipping .............. Another thought would be to scrap the piece and save the marble, there are many on this forum who could craft you a quality Sherlock with the marble attached for a reasonable price.

if you plan to post pics or take it to a local glassblower be sure to clean it thoroughly first.
