Hey people, I have been looking around the forum and see many people with a whole lot of 'glassing' experience. That's great because I have almost none. A real noob.

My name is Teddy and I am just starting to set up my studio. While on vacation in norther Ohio, I took a one week seminar and got hooked.

I have been a professional goldsmith for the last 30 years. I will be happy to help anyone with metal working question, cause I am sure I will have a ton of glass working questions :D

Sorry to be so long winded, but I am really excited that I found all you experts.

...Teddy

Welcome Teddy!
I know a lot of glassblowers are starting to mix mediums more and more, so I am sure there will be some questions for you.
Now sit back, make some popcorn, and catch up on some reading!

Lorax cheap gold is just about as silly as scrap gold. Go to any big time "makes there own settings " jewler and ask for some scrap gold.

I did this once and the guy at the counter played along and asked the guys in the back for some scrap 24k gold.

After some laughing and telling me there process he informed me in his world there is no such thing as scrap pure gold. Once he lays his hands on pure he has so many apps with it he could not go into them all.

He then gave me a tid bit of 22k and said he would not even consider it scrap. He did tell me some do not cast or fabricate the ring part, and these Type usually sell there leftover to guys like him or it goes back into the system sold at weight.

Thanks for the nice welcome. And speaking of gold, I can sell pure in small quantities at the current spot price. Smithy

Teddy,
great to see another metalsmith convert on board. :D I'm also a metalsmith that's relatively new with the flamework myself........Most of what I've learned.........I've gleaned from posts on this forum. Excellent resource.

A source for fuming metals........ Rio Grande sells 24K gold and fine silver wire pretty reasonable. FWIW.
gotta agree with jr........no such thing as scrap gold........I melt it all down myself.
