So, with the economy looking up and all, I decided it was time to take the plunge! :D

Hah ha. Rather, DESPITE the economy I decided to take the plunge - this job has been killing me lately and I could be babysitting and making just as much money. Still have a part time, from-home job to help even things out but despite all of the dire news laltely I've been making more $$$ from my glass than from this stupid job! And have been too exhausted to make nearly as much work as I could/should be making so could theoretically do better without this job.

It was a pretty awesome way to give notice, too! I had my annual performance review on Thursday and it was going really well - flying colors and all, UNTIL we got to the point at the end where it was my turn:

Them: "So, do you have anything you'd like to say?"

Me: "Actually, yeah. I've been thinking of leaving for a while because I'm completely burnt out and am currently making MORE money from my art than this job!"

Them: "Oh. [long pause] So, maybe you could work less hours for us?"

Me: "Uh, no."

Man, I've been so burnt out for such a long time on too much work and my glass has REALLY been suffering lately so this just felt SOOOOoooo.... good to say! Just had to share with my peeps here. Now I just need to ride out my last few weeks and get crankin' on the glass!

Good luck man.

If the work you have been posting is a reflection of your glass "suffering", I cannot wait to see what you can make with your new found freedom. I hope to see a lot more of your stuff posted up here, your work is inspirational to say the least....

Congratulations!

Congrats. That must have been funny as all hell to see the look on their faces. Ya should have had a video of that.....priceless. Good luck. I can't wait to see what your work looks like when it is not "suffering" cause it has been bad ass up til now.

Wes,

Congratulations on taking that first scary step along the path of self-employment. Given the calibre of work that we've seen from you, I believe that if anybody can make a living as a glass artist, you certainly can.

Best,
C

Welcome to the ranks of the self-employed.

The bad news: You will probably get fewer vacations...
The good news: You will probably need fewer vacations...

Enjoy your freedom and please post lots of pics to inspire and amaze!

NO WAY you too. It's not such a bad job, I mean I haven't gotten burnt out yet; although it does smell from time to time.
