"In my never-ending quest to offset my lack of glassblowing skill I decided to construct such a device, and I gotta say, it's worked out pretty well."

Ummmmm I don't get it? I really wish I could say (no offense intended) I was blond, but I'm more gray. Bueller? Anyone?

I saw the master of coils Donnie H at the vegas event using a can shaped piece of cylindrical sheet metal with a notch in it. Whether the device spins it for you with a crank the real skill set is in heating the glass to just the right stage and then matching that with your rotation of jig and feed rate.

I would assume it you have trouble doing this job this machine acts more like a crutch which gets the gob done. IF you can spin the crank why cant you turn a rod with a jig on it.

I will be demoing coil winding at AGI this year there are a few different ways to wind coils. The machine pictured is not very versatile when you have to wind medium to large coils.

Winding coils by hand is a skill you can learn.

i wrap about ten 8 inch diameter on 6mm standard 2 meters long just about every day. I HATE COILS the most joyous moment in my life is when i mess one up and get to smash the fuck out of it. but yeah it just takes some practice to do it by hand.

Scientific version of the line tool?

It's almost like deja-vu.

This thread may get 4 pages long if we don't spike it through the heart.

LOL.
