I dont really know where to start , but the glass party turn out to a glass tragedie  .... about 15 minut after I arrive , me and loic leave the shop to go to de grocery store , and tilman stay at home , 15 minut after loic got call , it was tilman telling him that the shop was in fire  ....to make a long story short , tilman saved what he could and get out some propan tanks...it was a terrible moment really but no one get hurt (THANKS A LOT TO TILMAN who save some stock and call the firefighters it was a question of some seconds before things gets from BAD to REALLY BAD ). you can imagine the glass party just never happen .Now Loic is in trouble , he lost almost all what he own in the glass shop (torches, tools, glass, computers, ALL) and also he lost his job for now  , as for me , my gear was inside so I lost my kiln and my torch (the torch may be still good) , thanks a million tilman to saved my tools and glasses . So I dont know really how to proceed as I'm pretty new here but if there is a way that the gldg can help loic , please do , cause loic is an awesome guy that just was trying to help the canadian (quebec) glass scene ....the fire was start by electric wire and could happen to anytime , the timming was just so f$""$% bad that it just dont make any sence .
please do what you can and send good vibe to loic , I think he really need some in this hard time !

So sorry to hear about this - it really is all of our worst nightmares come true. I had been thinking about making the trip from Ontario but the timing didn't work out for me.
Is there any way we can get some sort of fund going? I don't have much, but I'll donate what I can.
Just terrible. Glad no one was hurt.

i just saw pics you posted of that shop and it was a really beauty... i'm sorry to hear your loss, hopefully you guys will figure out how to recover some how.

Was it a small electrical fire that spread quick or something? I'm curious to know what exactly happened so i can take any more precautions i might not be taking.... this is all of our worst nightmares i think, sorry it had to happened to you guys.

there is nothing to learn about this , the fire took in the wall via an electrical wire that was a pc pluged on it (I think) and raply run inside the walls and top :(

Yup that sucks alright. Check the pics on my GP.org page. We lost our shop to a propane heater. Did your liquid catch? I saw a 4 foot green flame shooting out of this tank. Melted the dang thing in half!
Good luck , I'm sure you'll get back on your feet.

Sorry to hear. I know this probably won't help much since you're in canada and what not, but if anyone up there can get a place to stay near boston ma, I'd definately hook ya up with some shop space(not that it's mine, but..), a torch, and some glass to use for a while. Drop me a pm if you're interested.

I have BTDT and I know the feelings when you lose everything. At least no one was hurt, thank God. If there is a fund set up to help, please post a link and I'll kick in what I can. If there is not a fund set up, please set one up. I will be glad to help in any way I can. Just know that there are people out here that are willing to help.

OMG! My stomach turned over many times watching your video and it totally brought up some old memories of watching the same thing happen to my house in 96'. There is a complete feeling of helplessness that comes with watching such a horrible event take place in front of you. I'll be contacting Kristian today and adding what we can to your store credit with him. I know it won't fix everything, but I'm so happy to hear everyone came out safe and unharmed. Feel free to PM us if there's anything we can help with.

Dam what a kick in the pants

Loic's not in trouble with the law is he?

I don't think the Melting Pot has a fund set up for this kind of thing, but like smithy said you should set one up.

Damn how scary is that!? Please do set up something ... paypal donate or set up a page, hell, I'll set up and host a page on my server if you need ( PM me if you need) ... that really stinks and like others in the thread have said, thank God nobody got hurt. I would be glad to spread the word once you get something set up on a couple other places (forums/blogs) and get some others to kick in ... every little bit helps. I hate your all going through this man.

Sorry to hear what happened.

and don't worry, once you've got something up and running, then you loose it all, it's easy to set it up again because you know what to do.

At least you all got out alive.

hey everyone. thanks for the kind words and all the willingness to help. im just really getting around to gettin online now. i dont even know really where to start, the whole thing seams so surreal.

i was here by myself and saw smoke and went to check it out. i really only had time to save some stuff and get 2 100pound propane tanks unhooked and taken out of the shop. i got what i could but the smoke was too think and there was flames starting inside the building. the firefighters were getting mad at me cuz i wouldnt stop going into the shop and they wouldnt come close. it was kinda hard as i dont speak french so the communication at first wasnt good but we got it worked out. i lost one torch and all my hand tools. cleardome lost his big torch and his kiln (i managed to save his gear) and loic pretty much lost everything.

i know everybody here has a big heart and would help any way they can i have not been online but i will be pretty much all the time now and constantly in contact with alex (cleardome). any help from anybody will be greatly appreciated cuz its gonna be pretty hard to recover from this.

again i thank everybody for there kind words and willingness to help i think alex also has covered everything

thank you

tilman

wow. I'm almost speechless....

Tragedy. And when the shock wears off I think we'll all learn something from this, even if it's just that we can never predict accidents.

First off I would encourage you to contact CERF, the Craft Emergency Relief Fund. http://craftemergency.org/ they're a US group, but they would probably be a great resource to finding anything in Canada that is comparable, and may even have some relief programs in place for international problems. They're the Red Cross of the craft world.

I make an annual donation of $100 for CERF through the GAS, and I would happily make a similar contribution on behalf of the GLDG if someone would want to contact them and start tracking GLDG contributions to CERF. I think the GLDG starting their own fund would be redundant, but I think as a tight knit community we could bring a lot of attention to both the GLDG and CERF through some cooperative fund raising.

Also, I already posted on the other thread, let me know what's needed after Kristen and Adam's contribution, and I'll put together what I can as a care package. I will contact Joe @ Origins and see if he can get a bit of glass together.

As for total loss, maybe not.... some of the equipment we work with is capable of dealing with the high heat of a structure fire, water damage may be more of a concern. If you have a chance to salvage keep an eye open for stuff, you might be surprised. Kilns and torches can be rebuilt, tools can be cleaned, some glass may be usable.... it may not be much, and right now you may not want to think about it, but later the effort may be worth it to salvage what you can.

Stay positive, keep in touch, and if anything else is needed, let us know.

-Doug

thanks for the kind words doug and the offering of help. we will check into the releif fund. you guys keeping stepping up your awesomeness everyday. im always amazed at the amount of help and caring and love that goes around this community. at times i feel this place is more tight knit than my own birth family. again i cant express how much this forum and the people in it mean to us. we thank everybody from the bottom of our hearts.

and yes we do have alot of salvage to do but its a slow process. it will take time

again thank everybody so much and we are staying positive and trying to keep it on the sunny side of life

Loic...if you see this send me an email....i have a phantom you can borrow, and a nice aim kiln that is just sitting my my storage not being used and a coulple cases of glass and some colour you could get started with...i may have a few other things depending on what you need.....only thing would be that you would need to drive over to get it...probably like a 6 hour drive......but i can ship the smaller things...just not the kiln or larger glass as the cases are split up and such...you got my email addy homie...or you can pm me .

this community is the shit, you guys are right. and what goes around comes around, for sure. i've helped everyone i ever could, and when my family needed help during matt's surgery you guys literally kept food on our plates. we will always be more than grateful and return the favors whenever and however we can.

doug is right tho, starting a fund here would be redundant. when we do the birthday forum event and raise money for the year, i always stash whatever i can to help people out for things like this on behalf of the forum. we helped a lot of people this last year, it was a tough one all around. we will continue to do this whenever we can, but you guys definitely need to hit up cerf. they are a great resource and there for this specific reason. :)

and i can't say enough, renters/home insurance is a life saver.

glad to see things shaping up for you guys in your time of need. keep us posted. :blowkiss:
