our power went down Thursday morning with a blown transformer (one of the 3 phase lines) and according to the power company it is going to be mid-week or later before things are back up and running.

Not to fuel the fire or cast aspersions, but I am confused here. Power and phone are different lines. The phones should be working fine even if your brand new transformer blew.

Email can be checked from anywhere. I check mine from all over the place using the wonders of modern interweb technology. I can check it here in NY, in MA when I visit family, at the airport, at coffee shops, in other states, and even in other countries! It really is quite amazing. With a broadband card, you can actually check it anywhere you can get a cell signal. Wow, huh? Sprokets and whirlygigs! What will those egg heads come up with next?

i can imagine all of your phone lines being down if you have nothing but cordless phones. there is a new invention....called a calling card....that will allow you to call pretty much anywhere. i would think it would be a must for a business owner worried about keeping customers in such a situation. that is , of course, unless they have a cell phone (which can be charged anywhere).

They know what the problem is, we are at the end of a 3 phase line and they didn't bother to loop it. It ends at our factory, and when the load gets unbalanced (not from us, they've put load meters on the system), it puts additional strain on the transformers and after awhile *poof*...

According to the engineer I spoke with on Saturday, they are planning on looping the line, but that's about a month out. They figure the new transformer will be able to take any imbalance (assuming the other 2 aren't on their last legs) until the load problems get resolved.

This hasn't been my experience. Ever. I've been in numerous power outages with full phone service. The phones are powered by your communication provider, not your power company. If you've got nothing but cordless phones with base stations, then yes, a power outage will effectively cut off your phone, but any standard unit plugged into a wall jack will work. They're about a dollar at Goodwill.

Excuse me, but Mike/Ed are correct. If you have a PBX system (private branch exchange) or a small "key" system (phones with different line selections buttons (for the dummy's)), power is provided by local electrical supply..... If power is out phones go out, just like if you have Skype or Majicjack or Vonage and power goes out (dead computer/internet) or simply a "cordless" phone, you have no service....... Better system do have battery backup supply (UPS) but that option is expensive and only has has a few hours or days it can run system...

Dial tone and phone service is only reliable if you have POTS (plain old telephone) service.... That means power is to run phone service is provided over Tip & Ring from phone office and you just have plain Jane "handset" on end of line...

I would have to agree here. Dishonesty is one thing, but when a lie seems so obvious, and the people being lied to are expected to just pretend that they are being told the truth, it goes a lot deeper.

Perhaps they really are two different people that communicate in the exact same manor, but I highly doubt it. If evidence can be provided to show that these are indeed two people posting instead of one, I will be the first to apologize. Right now though, things just aren't looking too good.
