I have just won a facet cutting arm on ebay. It comes with a partial set of dops and I have located extra dial index's from a old timer that goes to the gem show's here local and actually cut on a machine just like the one I bought.

He has given my a few pointers and when the machine is here he is going to look it over for me. I was told the lap I have acsses to use is more of a hobby type and once he gives the machine a once over I should get a better lap more suited for facet cutting.

Also he has instructed me to get a " Gauge that has a pin that drops out of it" I forgot what he called this gauge. Its to check that your lap is all level and true.

Quick noob question whats the most common dial index gear . I see some machines come with 80,96, ect.

the one I have is not here yet so I am all excited about playing with the new toy here is the link http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140322398740&autorefresh=true

96 is the most common index gear .I like the 84 also .But to start the 96 is what i would go with . If you need dop wax i suggest getting it from graves company and going with the high tempriture black wax as it holds better. Good luck and happy faceting .

Damn that is a score JR. I need to keep my eyes peeled for one of those, I am tired of doing it by hand.
