Check out the faq room http://www.thegldg.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=11 We just moved and most our info was lost in the ezboard hack, but there are still some good theads in there we copied over.
As for your other questions, I'll move this to the front page so you'll get more answers. :) Welcome to the GLDG.

There is good stuff here, in the faq, like sceintific technigue. You could also look at the isgb, international society of glass beadmakers, MAYBE, but they have a message board and some other stuff, like local classes and artists. Glasspipes.org and glassartists.org are awesome, lots of pics, but both were down last I saw.
If youre looking to blow pipes, there is a guy with a really cheap homemade dvd on ebay, its just basic setup info, and pulling points, fuming, wrap and rake, he makes two basic spoons on the vid, like $15 but decent...
There is essential lampworking volume 1 and 2, volume two is pretty sweet, they do all kinds of different sections to make this heady vase...
And there is a six volume set from humboldt films, I havent watched any of it, but I have heard its allright, but $250 for the set...
Im interested to hear others book recomendations, I only have making glass beads, by Cindy Jenkins...Its worth a read.
Good luck!

I've been lampworking for about a year. "Passing the Flame" by Corina Tettinger is a good book for getting started (you can get it at Amazon or through Corina at www.corinabeads.com).
As for lampwork forums, there's ISGB, but it doesn't seem to have heavy traffic on its boards. You can also try www.wetcanvas.com, and a new board, www.lampworketc.com....
I'd love to learn to make glass pipes, but I think that might be a bit out of my league at this point!

Contemporary Lampworking, by Bandu Dunham is a very good book. It will keep you busy for months. Amazon.com carries it, as well as most lampwork suppliers.

well, you could just come and rent a room in my house...
and become my part time/weekend apprentice...
i personally don't have that long in glass blowing but,
fire is my friend, artistry is my passion and i have a small studio
and could add a station easily...
that is, if you like white beaches and paradise...

smartflix.com has a bunch of lampworking dvds to rent, if the library here doesn't have it, or you want them all at once..
finding someone local to you is a good way to spend money.

yes, yes and yes...
Pensacola has the Whitest Sand in the world...!!!
Jimmy Buffet wrote a song about a cheese bugger in Paradise
and he was here when he came up with it...
i do have a room to rent in my house...
and i do want an apprentice... must be willing to put forth effort on a continual
basis...
i am less than 8 miles from the beach, two miles from the airport and 6 miles to
U.W.F.
paying rent and working around the house will insure less bitch work in the studio and i learned under someone that has 12 years in flame working...
my studio is small but, has room to grow with the propper help and motivation
from the apprentice...
