Hello all, I recently ran out of schott, and wanted to try more simax because it fumes easier for me. However, I can't find simax cheaper then schott, anywhere. For example, on generations, Simax 25.4x4 is $9.88 per a tube if you buy a case, but schott is only $9.17 a tube, and it's slightly bigger (26x4)

Anyone know the best, cheapest place to buy simax or schott, plus I can get 10% off on generations. Thanks

schott is cheaper everywhere, that is why many people use it

schott duran, or schott boro artistic? schott duran is usually about the same price as simax in my experience, while SBA is cheaper.

Im still trying to figger oot why so many people don't like Schott BA. I've been loving it since I started using it. No bubbles, lines or warped tubes ever. Not to mention cheaper. I find fuming just fine. I really can't say I notice any difference in Schott BA from my old trusty Simax other than a lower price.

I recently did the math on the price of Simax vs Kimax, at Mountain glass; and they are within a dollar of each other. Kimax is a foot shorter than Simax, so I divided the cost by the foot to figure the cost of each.

I use SBA all day. Call Adam at UST and he'll get you the best deals directly, plus you can get good deals on gong while you're calling.

The fuming aspects are a little annoying at first, but they can be overcome.

I have tried the new Schott Boroartistic from the new tanks and I can tell you it is a new product. Takes fume better (differently?) from the older stock. As old stock rotates out the new stuff will be available. Right now it's just in the 50x5 AFAIK.

Also, I would encourage everyone to use the closest UST distributor to them to save on shipping. We all sell the same glass at the same listed prices. My CS has some kinks to work out, but Kristian @ Generations is the MAN for any East Coast orders, and any Albuquerque walk-ins are always welcome here.

I drop ship cases and pallets from LA for larger orders, smaller mixed cases from me can take a few days...I do ship, but being just me at the shop orders can take a few days to get packed if I get busy with retail.

I still appreciate all the business you all send my way!

Make some fumed marbles from SBA tube vs Simax. Simax is very tolerant of over fuming and restriking, while avoiding the nasty white/yellow silver fume colors. Plus the optical quality of simax cannot be beat.

oh. I guess I thought schott was just the "most expensive" glass you could get. But thanks everyone for input. Anyone know local AZ distributors? Chameleon isn't really an option, they just trade pieces for more "raw materials" is what the guy said on the phone.

If any local blowers wanna pick up together to save on shipping/glass, hit me up. Scottsdale area

I had a talk to one of the Schott people here in Australia (where we can't get Schott BA) and they looked into it for me ... they still don't import it but according to Schott Australia there is no difference between Schott Duran and Schott BA except pricing and the label.

You might want to check out these guys http://www.tgi-glas.com/ ... now their glass is cheaper than any other (here in Australia anyway) and it's really really good. It works softer than Schott but not as soft as Simax. Great glass, try it out when you get the chance. I've stopped buying Schott since this stuff has hit the market!

In my opinion you can get the sickest fume ever from Schott Boro Artistic, but its not very consistent. You have to fume like just the pefect amount with the perfect flame, and dont over strike. Sound easy right? lol

I personally am switching from kimax/kimble and schott to simax .I have the best luck with striking silver with the simax and more control with silver striking colors .The little bit of schott boro artistic that i have used always had a weird glowing line going down every tube and the rod seems to want to boil when you are raging it .I also cannot throw the schott in the flame without it exploding .The simax has not blown up on me at all even the 75x5 is super stable when it comes to thermal shock .I have been getting the simax from Glasscraft at a 10% discount so its costing me The same as schott .One thing also about the simax is the cases are almost 2 time's heavier so a case will last longer because its like buying 2 cases of Schott . Alot of people use schott out here because we have two differt distributers in town .But i personally think the boro artistic is crap .I have heard rumors that the artistic series are schotts seconds .I don't know but i like the simax alot and think its completly worth the few extra pennies .

^ I agree. It's only a few cents per pound extra and it's worth it. I can throw pieces right into the flame with simax. :)

Really? Do you mean Schott list prices? Just look around it can always be had for much cheaper than list. I just looked at the F&D site and the prices on Simax are much higher than what I pay for Schott. Granted, I buy several cases at a time, but....

No problems with thermal shock for me. No problems period.

Yea I was just comparing list since thats what they have on the site, Im sure FnD would do a discount on several cases too.

Either way both Schott and Simax have their place, that why I like to have both on hand.
