my guess is between 80 and 90. They are not all the same.

They are like 83 - 87. Most are compatible with each other and float glass except for the blue bottles.
(Post edited for correction, I just took the time to look it up.) :D

Wine glasses can range from 80ish to 120ish depending on if it's lead crystal, machine blown, hand blown, etc.
Some are even made of harder glass similar to boro, 40ish coe.

And to complicate matters, say you have to Heiniken bottles from different bottling plants. There's no guarantee they both used the same manufacturer, so even though they're both green glass, both have nearly the same label, they can be incompatible with each other.

I am curious how COE will determine your kiln cycle. Ramping speed?

Peak soak temperature I believe.

Too fast with lower COEs will cause devit, cracking, etc, right? Particularly the 'etc'. :)

If he is aware of how much force it takes to break the surface tension, I guess he could calculate maximum ramping speed from the COE, but if he has that kind of equation, he should be sharing.
Too fast with HIGHER COE's will cause etc.

I was just going to set a program for melting bottles. I have a panthlet on how to kiln glass of COE 96 and the ramping #'s and the holding times. I'm tweaking it a little. Once I have a program that I can just pop a bottle in and push start and go to work (cooking job) or to sleep, then I'll post my personal settings for everyone. I'm getting a wide variety of response and very confusing answers so I'll do this the hard way. Trail and error. Even the new Flow mag was kinda confusing on the wonka beads with the mili'z. It seems the down ramp was a seg. of it's own but not really listed as so. I use the charts in Essential Lampworking for boro now. Just multiply the Min. # x 60 to adjust your ramp # b/c my AIM kiln is degrees per hour.
